It feels like the Encyclopedia Britannica has been around forever. Those of us old enough to remember a time when the internet didn't have all the answers will remember using the volumes to research projects and essays for school. However, with the digital age well and truly upon us, Britannica is saying goodbye. Robothespian is ambassador for human-robot interaction

Let us face the facts – talking to a robot is novel when you think about it, but in the long run, I am quite sure that most of us out there would absolutely love nothing better than to hold a conversation with another human. I guess technology is helping us get to a point where human-robot interaction is “normal”, and this is where Robothespian comes in. Already the main star at Lyon's Innorobo fair, which is an annual event for robots, the android “actor” was developed by robotics firm Engineered Arts Limited.

New iPad launched, causes frenzy around the world

So the new iPad has already made its way into the hands of consumers worldwide (in launch countries, at least), and it never ceases to amaze me that each new iteration of an Apple device these days seem to see longer and longer queues, not to mention folks camping out far earlier than expected. In fact, you will find many a scalpers as well in line, where some folks in London are being paid money just to line up, and those spots in the line will then be ‘sold' to others who can afford the price, obviously lending more credence to the adage, “time is money”.

Remember the Piolo iPhone 4 stand that we covered last year. Well, we've got another iPhone stand that functions similarly and does a little more. Created by Curve Creative, and interestingly named Angryman, this simple device functions as an iPhone stand, cable tidy, and cable shortener. To use it, all you have to do is attach it to the side of your iPhone, and it will keep it propped up while you watch your movie or leave it by your bedside as an alarm clock.
If you've got headphones that are always getting tangled in your pocket, you can wind them around the Angryman to keep them neat and tidy as well as make them easy to find.

Microsoft has “Branded Browser Frame” app

Microsoft's filing back in 2010 for a “Branded Browser Frame” app has just appeared, thanks to the document being published by the United States Patent and Trademark Office. This app is said to detail a “computer-readable storage media” which can be executed in a specific manner. While no further light is shed on this matter, one can only presume that surfing on a website which is capable of handling the execution is where Microsoft is pointing this app towards. Once it has done that, it will then offer an interface which depends on the kind of underlying instructions which it receives.

DARPA envisions disposable SeeMe satellites for on-demand reconnaissance

A new project from DARPA could successfully bring satellites to the same throwaway status as paper cups and Charlie Sheen's income (#winning). At $500,000 a pop, the orbitals would hardly be chump change, but the Pentagon insists these airborne systems could provide reconnaissance within 90 minutes of deployment and would deliver valuable tactical information to areas not covered by current satellites. Known as SeeMe, the systems would be launched in groups of 24 - which equates to a $12 million cluster - and would remain in orbit for 60 to 90 days, at which point they'd burn up upon atmospheric re-entry.

Google Patents Ringback Tone Ads – Coming Soon To A Phone Near You?

Google and ads go together like Apple and lawsuits. Heck, it’s the reason Google is even around in the first place. And if you own an Android device, you’ve no doubt seen an ad or two either pop up inside one of your applications, or possibly invade your homescreen. Well, Google is always looking for new ways to bring ads to the masses and it looks like they’ve found a new way to bring a few more to your phone, this time – while you place call.
A patent was filed and recently awarded to Google, allowing Big G to place audio adverts in place of that boring old ringing tone you hear when making a call.

In addition, the company is also suing Google for copyright infringement, which could earn Oracle hundreds of millions of dollars. “These patent and copyright claims are without merit, and we look forward to defending against them at trial,” Google spokesman Jim Prosser said.

KillShot camera looks like a hunting rifle

KillShot camera looks like a hunting rifle

Hunting is a sport enjoyed by many, but unfortunately isn't very safe due to the fact that real guns are being used. Well some folks have thought of a solution to the problem and introduced the tentatively named KillShot camera. Designed in the shape of a hunting rifle, it lets users “hunt” their prey without having to dish out any firepower. Instead of shooting bullets, the KillShot shoots photographs of targets, with the crosshairs intact. With the KillShot, hunters can go after animals without worrying about accidentally misfiring their weapons, and animals won't have to suffer in the name of the sport as well.

Jaguar to confine turbine-powered C-X75 to track use?

We can appreciate a good track car as much as the next enthusiast, but we're beginning to bemoan their creation as a way out for automakers to charge wealthy customers obscene amounts of money for cars they're not even legally allowed to drive on the road. (As least, not in countries were homologation can't be circumvented with a sufficient bribe to the right bureaucrat. Which we're not entirely sure includes these United States.). It's the road that Lamborghini is expected to take with the "production" version of the Sesto Elemento concept, and it appears to be the way Jaguar plans to bring its C-X75 concept to production.

When the HTC One V brings the classic “big chin” design back to store shelves, it will do so in more than just the grey color scheme shown off at Mobile World Congress. Newly uncovered images show off the aluminum-bodied handset in black and purple variants. Given the phone’s lower-tier specs — a 1GHz CPU, 5MP camera, and 3.7-inch display — we doubt any of the new finishes involved the transformation of materials via the application of 10,000 volts of electricity, but that doesn’t mean they won’t compliment the One V’s good looks exceptionally well.
