Moto X teardown gives us a look at the device's innards

Moto X teardown gives us a look at the device's innards

There's something oddly satisfying about watching the boys at iFixit teardown our most beloved Android devices. Their latest victim. The all new Motorola Moto X. The Moto X doesn't feature a removable battery cover which means tools are necessary for prying the device open. After iFixit removed the Moto X's backplate — which was actually adhered to the inside of the device — they were finally able to expose all the inner workings of the device.

LG Optimus L7 II Dual has a flowery version too

LG Optimus L7 II Dual has a flowery version too

Flowers on phones. Why. Well, they must be appealing to someone, right. Since they keep popping up once every few years. First Nokia tried something like this with a few of its phones way back in the day, then Samsung created entire La Fleur-branded ‘collections' of smartphones with flowers on them… and now LG.

Remember the ‘special edition' LG Optimus L5 II Dual? We told you about it a couple of weeks ago, and sure enough, it's got a flowery pattern on it. But it's not alone, it seems.

Enter the LG Optimus L7 II Dual with flowery pattern added for good measure.

BMW X4 tunes up its crossover game in Germany

BMW X4 tunes up its crossover game in Germany

Except for the fancy wheels and the overly expressive fascias, the production version of the BMW X4 looks like it will carry over practically untouched from what we saw in the X4 Concept several months back. With the same fastback roofline as the concept, these spy shots show that the X4 is taking shape to be a baby version of the BMW X6. Sharing the same platform as the X3, the lower and wider X4 will be positioned slightly more upmarket – as is the case with the X5 and X6.

Popularity of pay-as-you-drive auto insurance accelerating

Popularity of pay-as-you-drive auto insurance accelerating

In the face of rising auto insurance premiums, insurance companies have been responding with potentially cheaper, pay-as-you-drive plans that, for billing purposes, track when, how, how much and where drivers use their vehicles instead of basing rates on statistics and past trends, The Detroit News reports. The practice isn't yet mainstream, but the National Association of Insurance Commissioners predicts 20 percent of insurance plans will be pay-as-you-go in five years; right now they account for less than one percent. But privacy concerns already are being raised due to the GPS tracking that's required for this type of insurance.

Nokia Executive Claims Instagram Will Arrive On Windows Phone Soon

Instagram has not yet made an official app appearance over on the Windows Phone platform, and lately, you could say that Instagram have gotten rather paranoid, where they are going to lay the smack down on apps that use "Insta" or "Gram" in their names. I suppose you can read about their reasons for doing so, but on to happier news this time around. Nokia executive VP Chris Weber, in his recent visit to Thailand where he reiterated the Finnish smartphone manufacturer's goal to overtake Samsung as the global leader in mobile phone market share, also did mention that the Windows Phone Store would be welcoming the Instagram app in due time.

Being creative in this day and age is even easier than ever before, considering the number of options that you have on hand. The introduction of technology in the form of smartphones, tablets, digital tablets, and the ilk make the arts even more interesting. Enter this huge "piano" that you can see in the video above – where it was created by a Microsoft team in Germany who used a total of 88 Surface RT tablets. Each of these tablets were specially programmed to play just one key (talk about overkill!), where this massive digital "piano" is the coolest musical instrument on the block at the moment.

Skype Your Way Around The World

Skype Your Way Around The World

They say that the world is an oyster – yours, and as we all jolly well know, an oyster ain't all that big to begin with. Could it really be, that the vastness of the oceans as well as all the continents of the world is far too small a place for someone as great as you. Nah, not really, but this does not mean you ought to remain detached from everyone else, does it.

If you were alarmed when the Petersen Automotive Museum starting selling off large and significant parts of its venerable collection, fret not: the museum isn't in trouble. In fact it's about to embark on what could be its most ambitious rebirth since the late Motor Trend publisher Robert E. Petersen and his wife Margie founded the museum nearly 20 years ago. The plans announced at Pebble Beach this past weekend revolve principally around an architectural renovation of the former department store that houses the museum by the corner of Wilshire Boulevard at Fairfax in Los Angeles.

Vivo X3 Spotted In China

Vivo X3 Spotted In China

The mantle of the world's thinnest smartphone seemed to have fallen onto the chassis of the Vivo X3, where this particular smartphone is said to measure a mere 5.6mm thin. It did make an appearance online in the past before as part of a leaked photos set, but it seems that the Vivo X3 has finally made its way to being the real deal, appearing at an actual event where those present were able to hold it in their own hands and go crazy snapping the shutter button on their respective digital cameras in order to churn out a decent news piece on this device a short while later.

NHTSA rebuffs 'best ever' crash test claim by Tesla (video)

In response to Tesla's claim that the Model S is the safest car ever tested, the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration has released a statement clearing up how it rates cars. While not denying that the Model S is a very safe car, the agency said that its rating system is only between one and five stars – nothing higher and nothing lower. This means that, unlike honors classes in college and high school, there is no way to score above the highest rating, and Tesla says that it received a 5.4-star rating (although there is no indication where it got this information).

The Lexus GX and the Toyota Land Cruiser Prado, which isn't sold in the US, have gone without visual updates since the current generation was launched in 2009. But what appear to be patent filing sketches and pictures of the sibling sports utility vehicles' mid-cycle updates have been leaked on a Russian Land Cruiser Club forum. Major changes to the GX's front end will be made to incorporate Lexus' signature grille. Gone are the awkwardly shaped headlamps and the soft-looking triple-slat grille.

You probably won't have to stretch your budget for the elastic Flip Wallet

Okay, it seems everyone has a new and improved wallet design these days. But with all the various designs, shapes, and materials being used for wallets, one needs to be a little different to catch my eye. The Flip Wallet, a Kickstarter project by Elizabeth Drew, has done just that. The Flip Wallet is a bi-fold wallet made out of elastic; it has two main compartments for your cards and a small elastic band running inside and out to hold your paper money and receipts. The Flip Wallet also has a small elastic loop to keep the wallet securely closed and a label loop to allow you to secure your keys to the wallet.

Jaguar crossover won't be based on Evoque or have off-road chops

Jaguar's long-rumored crossover won't be built on the same platform as the Land Rover Range Rover Evoque, says the Australian site Car Advice. The future of the new CUV remains uncertain, but if Jaguar does dip its toes into the SUV/crossover pool, though, the new vehicle will likely be a car-based soft roader, lacking (or perhaps more appropriately, not needing) the off-road-engineered chops inherent in Land Rover's small CUV platform.

Canada Tests Stealth Snowmobile

Canada Tests Stealth Snowmobile

We have seen stealth fighter jets and stealth bombers in the past, but here we are with word that Canada's military has started to test their $620,000 stealth snowmobile which relies on electric motors to sneak up on enemies. The new machines must be tested in a way against current machines for noise, speed, endurance, and being able make the switch to stealth ‘silent mode' in a jiffy. Apart from that, since this is meant to be a stealth snowmobile, its full capabilities of the Arctic warfare capabilities remain under wraps as a secret .

Connecting Cape Town: Inside South Africa's TV white spaces experiment

Deciphering the white noise. For the myriad companies involved, simply educating consumers on how TV white spaces (TVWS) work is a challenge. I'd argue that the terminology (and in turn, branding) could use a bit of work, but the gist is perfectly comprehensible. As it stands, television broadcasts travel over predefined frequencies, which can essentially be envisioned as bowling lanes positioned side by side. In practice, broadcasters only use every other lane to transmit, with the lanes betwixt left open as a buffer.

Nokia to announce a new device on August 28

Nokia to announce a new device on August 28

Coming from Russia we get a glimpse of what is an invite to a Nokia event slated for August 28 in Russia's capital Moscow. The invite has "World premiere" written on it and is framed in front of piano keys, which sadly doesn't give much of a hint as to what the star of the show will be. Nokia is rumored to have a tablet running Windows RT on the way. There's also talk of a FullHD phablet device, which was allegedly spotted but it's unlikely we'll see such devices before Microsoft unleashes the GDR3 update to WP, which will allow 1080p support.

So it's anyone's guess what, Nokia has up its sleeve for this event.

Street Fighter Will Not Be Arriving On The Wii U

Street Fighter Will Not Be Arriving On The Wii U

While Nintendo's own lineup of games are pretty popular in their own right, sometimes gamers just want to play something else, but unfortunately for them, big name developers such as Bethesda and Crytek appear to be passing on the chance to develop for the Wii U. Now it looks like Capcom can be added to the list as it seems that the company has no plans to bring their Street Fighter franchise to the Wii U anytime soon. This is according to the game's executive producer, Yoshinori Ono, in response to a fan's question.

Laraki Motors Epitome Concept is $2M and 1,750 hp that we didn't see coming

When we showed up at Pebble Beach this morning (really, really early this morning), we had a pretty good idea of classics and concepts that we wanted to cover. To be completely honest, the Laraki Motors Epitome Concept car wasn't on our cheat sheet. We hadn't heard of the wildly scooped and scalloped show car, and, until our recent chat with the company's head of sales Quinton Q. Dodson, we didn't really know what we were looking at either.
Laraki, the eponymous pet project of the yachting industry's Abdesslam Laraki, is a true beast of a thing, built up on the chassis of a C6 Corvette.
