STATS: Android tablet web traffic barely registers on a global level

Analyst ComScore has released some pretty humbling data covering the tablet market, showing that the world still definitely belongs to iPad in terms of current tablet market share. In its figures showing “non-computer device” network traffic during May, the mass of Android tablets were lucky to break above 1% of non-computer traffic across a variety of countries, with iPad varying between 4% in India and a whopping 33.5% in Canada. Here's a nice dry table:

89% of all tablet traffic came via iPad in May.

Microsoft Sees A Future Where The Kinect Will Be Used In Health Care

Would you ever have thought that the Kinect could be used for medical or health care reasons. If you didn't you can't be blamed as it was afterall, developed for the Xbox in mind, which in turn in a gaming device. Microsoft on the other hand doesn't quite see the Kinect as solely for gaming, as they have expressed interest in seeing the Kinect being used in operating rooms or doctors offices. For example, as pictured above, patients can attend group therapy sessions without actually having to be there in person, which would allow for anonymity.

Canon EOS 1100D (Rebel T3) coming in 4 assorted colors

It started with the traditional "professionally" black and the "striking" red, and now 2 more new colors are joining the happy-go-lucky bandwagon of the 1100D newbie DSLR. The company was clearly in an experimental mood, and got the harebrained idea that consumers just might snap up red and brown DSLRs the way they do its candy-colored point-and-shoots. The outfit is now selling its beginner-friendly EOS Rebel T3 in red, brown, and metallic gray — all in addition to your garden-variety black, of course. Sure, that's tame by Pentax's wacky standards, but for Canon it's pretty… outlandish.

Team Fortress 2 overtakes Counter-Strike to take Steam most-played top spot

Team Fortress 2 overtakes Counter-Strike to take Steam most-played top spot

For the first time in as long as we can remember, Counter-Strike has been knocked off (da fark there's still people playing this game!) the top spot on the Steam most-played list. Team Fortress 2 has stolen the crown. That means that overnight, TF2 has leapt from a top ten position to the very top, gaining tens of thousands of players in the process. It's a resounding indication of the success of TF2's move to free-to-play. Counter-Strike is routinely the most played game on Steam, often boasting twice the number of players of its nearest rivals.

Verizon Motorola Droid 3 may be launching on July 14

The Motorola Droid 3 has been leaked, and leaked, and then leaked some more. It's certainly been one of the most leaked handsets in recent history. How all that pre-launch attention will translate (or not) into sales remains to be seen, of course, but for now, let's talk about another leak regarding the successor to the successor to the well-loved original Droid. The Droid 3 looks like it's set for a July 14 release, at least if the screengrab you can see below can be believed. The image represents a quick shot of Best Buy's inventory system, apparently.

As you can see, the Droid 3 is clearly stated to arrive at the retailer on July 13.

Telus LG Optimus Black and Bell HTC Sensation 4G pre-orders have started, $50 deposit required

Two very interesting high-end Android smartphones have gone up for pre-order in Canada today courtesy of Future Shop. The LG Optimus Black is headed to Telus with some rather innovative Skype integration, although said integration happens more on your Telus bill than on the phone itself. Still, it's an interesting idea, and probably a first for any carrier (at least as far as I can remember).

Carphone Warehouse having an “Android sale”

The online arm of Carphone Warehouse has set up an entire “Android Sale” sub-section of its web site, where some relatively decent Android phone deals are hiding. Like, for example, getting the original Super AMOLED Nexus S on a £25 monthly contract, or the excellent HTC Desire S on a £18.50 tariff. Have a look. See if anything takes your fancy. There will be no pressure sales techniques from us. If you don't like anything, feel free to leave.

An INQ Cloud Touch for £119 plus a top-up isn't bad, either, if you need a cheap PAYG spare or replacement.

The new version adds a virtually unbreakable sapphire crystal covering on the LCD, produced using diamond cutting tools, and an anti-reflective coating.

One for cutlery, tho other one for everything else. There are no compartments, sections or organizational niceties whatsoever. I figure that when you need a knife and a fork, its just as easy to pick them from a pile.

Archos has been making tablets, and specifically Android-powered tablets for a long, long time – longer than anyone else in fact. However, let's face it: the company isn't necessarily the first (or second, or third) that comes to mind when you think of high-spec high-performance devices. Up until now, Archos seemed quite happy with the niche it appeared to have thoughtfully carved for itself: that of cheap tablets that were based on old versions of Android. Moreover, none of those Archos tablets of yesteryear had access to the Android Market, which sounds like a clear turnoff for any respectable geek.

That's Nokia CEO Stephen Elop asking press attendees to shut off their cameras, before naively pulling out the new handset, codenamed Sea Ray. Obviously not everyone complied, and we have the images to prove it.

But for the camera of the future, it may be possible to take a single shot of that same image and then change the type of focus later on. This can give photographers a means to take a multi-focused image in just a single shot. This type of futuristic camera may now be made possible by the new Lytro.
The Lytro is a camera currently in the works that may enable photographers to capture a more versatile image of sorts. It allows photographers to change the focus of the image after it is taken.

You may think that adding an M Sport pack to the BMW 5 Series Gran Turismo is the equivalent of putting lipstick on a pig, but let's be honest: BMW has to do something to broaden the 5GT's appeal and try to boost sales. BMW had projected that it would sell between 4,000 and 8,000 of its Gran Turismo range annually in the United States. Yet in 2010, the company only managed to move 2,848. Ouch. Our spy photographers caught this prototype of a 5 Series GT out in Germany, dressed up in what appears to be traditional M Sport kit.

The Active probably won't withstand a dip in the lap pool (or an accidental drop in the toilet).
