Royalties From Online Music Exceed Radio For Once In The UK

Royalties From Online Music Exceed Radio For Once In The UK

Ever wonder why radio is still around when you are able to download podcasts, stream music (and even video) and listen to talk shows and the news all online. While we guess traditional radio still has its place in society, it seems that for the first time in the UK, royalty rates collected from online music licensing has actually exceeded that of royalties collected from regular radio. According to the Performing Rights Society (PRS) in the UK, they have found that royalties collected from online radio amount to £51.7 million, which is definitely more than the £47 million collected from radio royalties last year.

Qualcomm Version Of The Samsung Galaxy S4 Reportedly Rooted As Well

Qualcomm Version Of The Samsung Galaxy S4 Reportedly Rooted As Well

A few days ago, we reported that according to posts on the XDA Developers forum that the Samsung Galaxy S4 might have actually been rooted ahead of its release. However since we do not have the phone ourselves, and since there is a lack of proof over these claims, Samsung developer and root specialist, Chainfire, took to his Google+ account to announce that he believed that the Galaxy S4 still remains unrooted due to the lack of evidence over the previous claims.

Canon EOS Rebel SL1 Hands-On Review (EOS 100D)

Canon EOS Rebel SL1 Hands-On Review (EOS 100D)

As Canon's DSLR line of product increasingly comes under higher pressure from mirrorless camera from Sony or Olympus, Canon has explored a couple of ways to counter the competition without cannibalizing its own product line (too much). It's fair to say that the first attempt with a mirrorless EOS M has been a “flop” at best, and our own review of the Canon EOS M shows that the poor auto-focus performance pretty much doomed that product.

HTC First Running Facebook Home Demo [HD video]

HTC First Running Facebook Home Demo [HD video]

Earlier today, Facebook lifted the veil from its Facebook Home. It's not a smartphone, but rather a new suite of apps that include Cover Feed which replaces the default lock screen application and allows users to access Facebook data more efficiently, with less friction, thus fulfilling Facebook's goal of keeping people more connected. The demo above shows how Facebook Home runs on the new HTC First, the first smartphone to feature Facebook Home out of the box.

Ram may build more trucks with sports team tie-ins

Ram may build more trucks with sports team tie-ins

After a rather successful foray with a Red Wings edition of the Ram 1500 last year – some 3,000 units sold – the truck brand is both re-upping its relationship with Detroit's hockey powerhouse and considering expansion into other sport franchises. Ram announced last month that it would carry on its partnership with the Red Wings throughout the 2012-13 NHL season. The company will not offer a special edition version of the 2013 Ram, due in part to the strike-shortened NHL season.

Destiny's Character Classes And Races Detailed

Destiny's Character Classes And Races Detailed

The other day we reported that Bungie's upcoming game, Destiny, was shown off in a character development video, and now thanks to Eurogamer, they have revealed the different character classes and races that gamers will be able to choose from within the game. Starting off with the rather standard Human race, there is also the Awoken race which was apparently designed with vampires and elves in mind, and there's also the Exo, which was inspired by Bungie's Master Chief from Halo (pictured above), and are described as being war machines and were inspired by looking at undead characters, and even The Terminator.

Possible Limited Edition Blackberry Z10 In Blue Spotted

Possible Limited Edition Blackberry Z10 In Blue Spotted

We've seen the limited edition Blackberry Z10 which comes in a rather striking red, and if black or white isn't your color, there might be a possibility that the Z10 could also come in another limited edition finish, blue (pictured above). This Z10 in blue was tweeted by hip hop artist, Lil E and we have to say, it looks pretty darn convincing. We're not sure if this is a special edition of the Z10 that was designed for Lil E, or if the artist just teased us with the possibility of a blue-colored limited edition Z10. Either way we have to say it looks pretty good, in fact it might even look better than the red Z10.

Twitter For Android Version 4.0 Released With New Look And Feel

Twitter For Android Version 4.0 Released With New Look And Feel

Version 4.0 of Twitter for Android has been released. Being one of the most widely used apps on Google's mobile platform, a new update is always welcomed. The latest update brings a new UI feel as well as a couple of nice new features. All doesn't seem to be good though, multiple users have given bad reviews about the new update on Google Play Store. For some the app is crashing upon launch, while some complain of the awkwardness in switching between multiple Twitter accounts on the app.
The release notes point towards the brand new look and feel crafted for Android 4.0 and higher versions.

Samsung Galaxy Ace 3 In The Pipeline?

Samsung Galaxy Ace 3 In The Pipeline?

Samsung seems to be taking the usual step of adding a number after a particularly long name prefix for their smartphones, and the Samsung Galaxy Ace has been seen to be succeeded by the Galaxy Ace Plus and the Galaxy Ace 2 after that, leaving very little to the imagination that the next device under the same lineage would be none other than the Samsung Galaxy Ace 3. It seems that the Samsung Galaxy Win which was recently leaked will not be the only device that Samsung is working on at the moment, as the Galaxy Ace 3, too, looks set to receive attention from the South Korean conglomerate.

In spite of troubles in other areas – and there are plenty of them – sales of the Peugeot 208 are a bright spot for the French carmaker. Attempting to grab that light and make sure it shines everywhere, the company is returning the Pikes Peak International Hill Climb on June 30 with a specially prepared 208 driven by nine-time World Rally Champion Sébastien Loeb.

What's the oldest gadget you still use regularly today?

What's the oldest gadget you still use regularly today?

Let's face it we live in a disposable age, phones have a desirable life span of less than 2 years, printer ink costs more than a new printer, things break within the first couple of years, and we just go and replace them. A true Gadgeteer covets the latest and greatest, but in the “old days”,  things were built to last and last. I was thinking it'd be interesting to see what gadgets people still use from the “days of yore”.
Here's my Gillette shell-pattern Pocket Edition razor from around 1914 . You can keep your 10 blade, battery-operated vibrating, sonic razor.

Windows Phone Exec Hired By Amazon For Secret Project

Windows Phone Exec Hired By Amazon For Secret Project

Charlie Kindel took the big step of skipping out on Microsoft after 21 years of working for the software giant, and decided to pit his fortunes with Amazon. Kindel did helm a fair number of divisions at Microsoft in the past two decades, where his last position was the general manager for Windows Phone as its third party app evangelist. Well, Kindel has confirmed that he has already pledged his allegiance to Amazon, although it remains to be revealed just what his involvement for the online retailer is exactly. Got to love his name though, as it has a phonetic resemblance to Amazon's own range of Kindle tablets.

Saudi Arabia May Send Whatsapp, Skype and Viber In Digital Exile!

Saudi Arabia May Send Whatsapp, Skype and Viber In Digital Exile!

While the integrity of the decision to ban these apps remains to be adjudged, the applications are still available in their entirety and accessible to users across the Kingdom, both on computers and mobile devices. It has been reported that the decision to ban these apps arises out of a recent minor political unrest, which was allegedly organized using Whatsapp. In the recent past, most of the social activists have also used Whatsapp to organize similar activities.
However, the major reason for potential ban is the inability of these apps to comply with the rules and regulations for digital communication in Saudi Arabia.

Jeremy Clarkson gets his own song

Jeremy Clarkson gets his own song

We've seen all manner of Top Gear tributes, but this is something of a different caliber altogether. British comedy duo Hawkeye and Windy have worked up a musical homage to the ever-contrarian Jeremy Clarkson with a tune that mocks the TV personality's critics. Clarkson has a long and documented history of agitating just about every group of people on the planet with his off-color comments. The song in the video after the jump pokes fun at everyone who's taken offense with some clever lyrics and one suitably creepy Clarkson mask.
We can't say we'll be watching this one more than once, but it's worth giving it a click through.
