Canon Announcement Rumored For 10th November

Canon Announcement Rumored For 10th November

According to a rumor we heard back in September, an announcement for a new Canon EOS M camera was coming soon, but so far we haven't heard anything, at least until a new rumor from Canon Rumors that claims that an event will be held by a major retailer on the 10th of November. According to the report, when asked about whether there will be new Canon products, the retailer couldn't share anything other than the fact that Canon folks will definitely be interested, but apart from that not much else is known.

Tech Consortium Sues Google And Other Tech Companies For Alleged Patent Infringement

The patent wars between tech giants has been heating up over the years, with companies using patents and legal victories as a means to block the sale of devices by their competitors. So far the biggest one we've seen is Apple versus Samsung, but it looks like that war will pale in comparison to the upcoming one where a consortium has filed a lawsuit against Google, ASUS, HTC, Huawei, LG, Pantech, Samsung, and ZTE, claiming that they have infringed upon patents owned by them. The consortium is none other than Rockstar which is owned jointly by the likes of Apple, BlackBerry, Ericsson, Microsoft, and Sony.

Earlier today Google officially announced the Nexus 5 and confirmed that it would be available from the carrier. Sprint Nexus 5 will launch on November 8th, priced at $149.99 with a two year contract. That's the 16GB variant after a $50 mail-in rebate, for new customers or existing ones eligible for an upgrade.

Time Warner Cable hasn't been having the greatest year with its customers as they stopped carrying CBS for around two months, resulting in the loss of 117,000 customers. 24,000 broadband customers also jumped shipped this year, although Time Warner Cable will be upping the speed of their Internet service as a way to entice customers to return as well as keep their current subscribers happy for putting up with the company's shenanigans.

Hudway turns your iOS device into a heads-up display

Hudway turns your iOS device into a heads-up display

Smartphones can enhance driving by acting as GPS systems, but Hudway takes the concept to the next level with its app, which turns any device running iOS (and in February 2014, Android) into a heads-up display that can be viewed on your windshield in low-visibility and low-light situations. All that you have to do, once you buy the app and install it on your device, is program the route (must have an internet connection), set it on your dashboard facing up and then start driving. The image on the screen reflects on the windshield, showing you the route ahead, and once you're on your way, Hudway says an internet connection isn't required.

Google Play Store device listings get a quick makeover before Nexus 5 release

It's been awhile since we've seen changes made to the Google Play Store on the web. But just in time for the inevitable Nexus 5 release, it seems Google is doing a little tidying up. Hopping on over to Google Play's Nexus 7 listing, you'll notice a cleaner layout, removing separate listings for various device configurations, replacing them instead with simple 16GB or 32GB selection boxes and connectivity dropdown menu. We approve.
While not ground breaking, it does make users' shopping experience that much easier and highlights some last minute changes before the Nexus 5 (and maybe even the Nexus 4?) arrives on the scene.

New Zealand motorcycle race nearly sets town ablaze [UPDATE]

New Zealand motorcycle race nearly sets town ablaze [UPDATE]

In Greymouth, New Zealand, a legal street race is held annually for amateur motorcycle riders, and we assume it's not every year that a last-lap motorcycle crash threatens to set the town ablaze. But that's what happened last Sunday when a Ducati rider lost control and high-sided his bike. Graham Boyd was following close behind on his modified Yamaha R6 and plowed into the Ducati, breaking the gas tank, spraying fuel everywhere and catching it all on video thanks to a helmet cam.

NSA Apparently Tapped Into Google And Yahoo Data Centers Around The World

The former technical analyst for the CIA, Edward Snowden, who leaked a treasure trove of documents earlier detailing the National Security Agency's various electronic spying programs is back with another cache of highly classified documents. These documents, which have been provided and confirmed by sources to The Washington Post, reveal that the NSA tapped into Google and Yahoo data centers around the world without telling either company. This, despite the fact that both companies are already said to be involved in PRISM, a program that gives the NSA front door access to their user accounts through a process approved by FISA courts.

Take Hurricane Sandy for example, believed to be the deadliest and most destructive hurricane of the season last year, as well as the second costliest hurricane in the history of the U.S. To help out the victims, Samsung donated $3 million, Apple contributed $2.5 million and Goal Zero managed to bring $600000 worth of portable power products to bring power to the affectees.

Apple Spent $4.5 Billion This Year On R&D

The public expects Apple to churn out innovative products each year, or at least updated versions of their existing productions with a few innovations here and there. Surely this can not be achieved without substantial investment being made into research and development. It has been discovered through Apple's annual Form 10-K filing with the Securities and Exchange Commission that the company's R&D expenses were up 32 percent this year. Apple has spent $4.5 billion on research and development alone this year, that almost the amount for which BlackBerry, an entire company, is likely to be sold.

Verizon Starts Same Day Delivery In San Francisco

Verizon Starts Same Day Delivery In San Francisco

When I think about same-day delivery, the first thing that pop in mind is groceries of course, although none of the available options have worked so well. However, Verizon just announced a same-day delivery for San-Franciscans who want to buy a phone online and get it the same day. The same deal was previously available in Philadelphia. Given that it is often be a hassle (schedule-wise) to head into a local store, I'd say that this is a pretty good idea. And since it's less expensive than the overnight delivery ($14.99 vs. $19.99) there's no real downside.

While it seemed like this was an offer with no clock on the table, we guess there are still some users out there who might be wondering if there is a time limit to this offer and if it was a one-time deal.

New Daylight Saving Time Bug Surfaces In iOS 7

A new bug has surfaced for some users in Calendar display on iOS 7, where the current time is offset by one hour, despite the fact that the status bar shows the correct time. The bug appears to be limited to the Calendar display, since alarms and events are not disturbed in any way, they're correctly timed and displayed. For example, due to the bug, the app will draw current time line at the 1:15 PM slot if the time is 12:15 PM. This isn't the first time we're hearing about a daylight saving time bug in an Apple device.

Since then, we've been hearing more and more in regards to the Galaxy NX, but today, we were able to finally get our hands on the camera for ourselves. Before we get into the nitty gritty of what Samsung has put under the hood of the Galaxy NX, we know one of the first things you'll take note of when you get your hands on the camera is how it feels. When we held the Galaxy NX in our hands, we felt extremely comfortable holding it, although it's understandably top heavy due to its lens.

There are parents who take there kids trick-or-treating, and then there are Cooper's parents, who built him the Ecto-1 from Ghostbusters with a push cart and put together a costume for him to match it. It only makes sense because last year the toddler rolled around the neighborhood demanding treats behind the wheel of a "custom built" DeLorean Time Machine from Back to the Future. While last year's cardboard DeLorean push cart was thought of off-the-cuff, Cooper's parents, Cory and Jeremy, held a brainstorming session this year to recall things they loved as children in the 1980s that could be made into a Halloween costume.
