LG Optimus 3D now available in white from Phones 4u in the UK

LG Optimus 3D now available in white from Phones 4u in the UK

Nearly everyone at the time was aware of the arduous birth of the white iPhone 4 but making such top products whiter than white is anything but exclusive to the likes of Apple. Other top-end smartphones which have more recently been able to parade around in a white lick of paint include the Android powered Samsung Galaxy S II and the LG Optimus White (aka, the Optimus Black). It now appears to be the LG Optimus 3D's turn to don the white however, as shots have cropped up from the back rooms of UK mobile retailer Phones 4u alongside its darker, more traditional twin.

Vroom, Vroom….this case definitely makes me think of engines and gear-heads. The Gasket case from id America is unique in the iPhone case world. It is cut from a single piece of aircraft aluminum in the shape of a car engine's head gasket. A cool idea in a flooded market. The Gasket case is compatible with both the at&t and Verizon iPhones.

The inside of the case is completely covered with a thin suede lining. This coating is designed to protect your iPhone from being scratched while getting the case on and off and provides some shock protection.

The case is perfectly fitted for the iPhone 4.

Pantech Breakout is another 4G LTE smartphone headed to Verizon

Just in case you were getting tired with Verizon's current lineup of 4G LTE capable smartphones, Big Red has something in store for you in the near future – yet another 4G LTE device, of course. For that's exactly what the Pantech Breakout appears to be, if the following leaked specsheet is to be believed. According to it, the Pantech Breakout won't be at the top of the high-end, but rather an upper-midrange offering.

What is said to be a photo of an iPhone 5's back cover has emerged, and it features a model number widely believed to be associated with the next generation Apple smartphone.

The image, first published by MacPost, shows a white iPhone back styled much like the iPhone 4. It bears internal model number “N94,” which according to previous reports is a model that supports T-Mobile's 3G services and is not currently used by Apple.

ITRI and Transcend create USB drives that store up to 2TB

ITRI and Transcend create USB drives that store up to 2TB

Who would've thought we'd see USB thumb drives with capacities larger than regular hard drives of today. ITRI and Transcend have managed to come up with an ultra thin USB drive with a minimum capacity of 16GB, but can have a maximum capacity of 2TBs. The drive also makes use of USB 3.0, which ensures that it won't take days just to fill it up with data. There's no word on when these drives will hit the market, or how much they will cost but we wouldn't be surprised if they cost an arm and a leg initially.

New Maintenance Update Headed to the HTC EVO 3D

Shortly after issuing the Android 2.3.4 update for the HTC EVO 3D Sprint is firing out yet another maintenance update for the handset. The minor update lists two elements, the first a widget (HTCAddProgramWidget) and the second a bit more mysterious (SPCSCORP4G). It most likely is a fix or enhancement related to 4G support for corporate-level PCS.

Windows 8 devices shown off at TechEd 2011

If you've ever wanted to know what the next generation Windows tablets will look like - good news. At the recent TechEd conference this week, Microsoft showed off some tablets that will be running on Windows 8, but didn't elaborate much on the devices. The tablets are said to be powered by quad-core processors (manufacturer not named) and will feature a much thinner profile compared to current generation Windows tablets. Other than that, nothing else was revealed.
Since we won't be seeing these devices until next year at the very least, it looks like Microsoft is just teasing the public to keep everyone interested.

General Motors scuttles overtime plans for Flint truck plant

General Motors scuttles overtime plans for Flint truck plant

Back in July, General Motors thought it would have enough demand for new full-size and heavy-duty pickup trucks to add a Saturday overtime shift at the Flint, MI truck plant. A contingent of 700 extra workers were brought on for the extra shift, which GM predicted would last for at least five weeks when it announced the move back in July. It began on August 7th, and now it's over. On Wednesday, August 24th, the extra shift at the truck plant was cancelled to avoid unsold trucks piling up in storage lots. A weak economic recovery and swings in fuel prices kept the damper on the anticipated sales.

Photographer Makes Huge 8 x 10-Inch Digital Camera Back

Mitchell Feinberg made the world's biggest digital back. Photo credit Mitchell Feinberg. Only in the world of photography could a piece of gear that costs “equal to the cost of a good size house - before the housing crash” be considered a money saver. But that's exactly what photographer Mitchell Feinberg claims for his 8 x 10-inch digital camera back.

After months of calling around, Feinberg managed to convince somebody to build the back for him (actually two backs — a pro always carries a spare).

HP TouchPad receives half a dozen free apps

HP TouchPad receives half a dozen free apps

Own a firesale HP TouchPad and wished that it had far more games to go along with it. That's not a problem – HP decided to roll out six free apps to their TouchPad tablet, which are worth more than $30 to boot. Since you forked out $99 for the TouchPad tablet, factoring in the $30 “free gift” and surely you would have more or less paid just $69 for the discontinued tablet. I do wonder just what else will HP be rolling out for the TouchPad – perhaps they might give other kinds of productivity apps to the masses, or more games.

Bentley dining room at Mosimann's is the only reason ever to leave your Mulsanne

Sit in a new Bentley, and you'd be forgiven for not wanting to ever get out. The interiors outfitted by Crewe's craftsmen are about as stately, plush and coddling as they come. But that is bound to change rather quickly if you succumb to the temptation of taking your meals in the back seat of your new Mulsanne. Fortunately, there's a dining room that can give you the same ambience without the danger of spilling caviar all over the quilted leather and thick-pile carpeting.

Personal subtitle glasses from Sony may get trial run in UK next year

It's been quite a while since we've heard any news about those spiffy specs that put private subtitles in your field of view. It looks like they're finally inching closer to reality though, with some help from Sony's UK arm. The BBC recently took hard-of-hearing Brit Charlie Swinbourne to the theater and let him give the glasses a go. Rather than displaying subtitles on screen the eye-wear projects text on the lenses where only that particular user can see them.

Aston Martin to present roadgoing production V12 Zagato in Frankfurt

Aston Martin to present roadgoing production V12 Zagato in Frankfurt

When Aston Martin rolls in to Frankfurt next month for the first auto show of the season, it will have the largest display the company has ever mounted at a car show. And among them will be a roadgoing version of the V12 Zagato that will see production. Well, almost, but not quite. Aston will actually be displaying two examples of the coachbuilt special in Frankfurt, which are, as best we can tell, the only two it's built to date. They're called Zig and Zag, and they're the two vehicles it raced at the Nürburgring to show what they were made of. Zig was built specifically to race and will be displayed in its full competition trim.

Up front, the new headlights and grille take a swoopier shape, as do the foglights below.

Cardstick – A Ruler for your Wallet that Requires Zero Space

This is one of those “why didn't I think of that…” ideas. The Cardstick is a set of 3 vinyl stickers that you can wrap around the edge of one of your existing credit cards. The stickers do not interfere with the normal operation (swiping) of your card and will provide a 3 inch ruler for those times when you need to measure something.

HP TouchPad with Android spotted?

We have heard about the TouchDroid project, but could the HP TouchPad that you see on the right actually be one of the rare models out there that runs on Android 2.2 Froyo – natively, sans the need for an emulator. Perhaps, according to a buyer of one of those super cheap TouchPads who picked up his copy from Best Buy a couple of days ago. This has yet to be confirmed, of course, so it really depends as to whether this is the real deal or not.
