And that other dimension would be Canada. Best Buy, Canada to be exact. One of the advertising wizards behind their weekly flyer has the HP TouchPad curiously listed as running Android 3.0 Honeycomb. Right…but the TouchPad actually runs webOS 3.0. We understand getting the 3.0 part confused, but a quick glance at the other side of the page clearly states webOS.

Apple revamps App Store pricing overseas

Apple revamps App Store pricing overseas

It looks like all of our pondering and mulling have proved to be correct, so we need not purchase a new crystal ball just yet. We are talking about Apple's possible revision of overseas App Store pricing – which has been done already, since the American dollar isn't what it used to be. The App Store pricing has been changed to reflect this new reality, translating to more affordable albums in Japan, Switzerland, and Australia, while those living in the UK, Norway, and Mexico will have to fork out more than usual.

Adobe and Sony create contest to put Air apps on Android tablets

It's common to see companies holding contests to promote their new products and to expand their brand. But what we have here is a rather unique contest. It's held by Sony and Adobe, called the Air App Challenge, and it's all about Adobe's latest product Air and Sony's latest product, the S2. For one, Air hasn't exactly taken off quite like the Flash makers had hoped — especially in the mobile space. And two, that new S2 tablet is going to need some apps that are designed to take advantage of its dual screens.

Virgin Mobile Motorola Triumph will be available on July 20 alongside new plans

The Motorola Triumph was announced by Virgin Mobile last month, being one of the top devices to be added to that particular carrier's roster. The Triumph may not exactly be a pure high-end smartphone in this day and age, but it's not underpowered by any stretch of the imagination with its 1 GHz single-core processor and 5-megapixel camera. As is usually the case with new phone announcements, what we didn't find out in June was how much the Triumph will cost or when it will be in stores.

Real time strategy games brought to a whole new level

Real time strategy games brought to a whole new level

If you've ever watched the pros play RTS (real time strategy) games like Starcraft, Warcraft and Command & Conquer, you will see frenzied clicking and typing on the mouse and keyboard, and you should also start hearing terms and phrases like "micro managing" and "APM" (actions per minute). However if playing RTS games on a traditional keyboard and mouse computer setup is not for you, perhaps gaming on a 20-foot-wide multitouch display might be something you could be interested in. The game in question is called Fleet Commander and it is based off the Star Wars universe and is developed by computer science grad student Arthur Nishimoto.

Nikon's 40mm Macro Lens Is Ready For Its Closeup

Nikon's 40mm Macro Lens Is Ready For Its Closeup

Nikon's new prime lens is pretty cheap, for a lens. A new Nikon lens is always worth a look. Recently the camera company has been upgrading its most stalwart lenses with internal AF motors to work on the latest, motor-less SLR bodies. Now, it has popped out a new, cheapish specialist model — a macro lens for full-frame bodies.

The lens is the AF-S DX Micro Nikkor 40mm Æ'2.8G. As you can see from the name, it has a 40mm focal length and a reasonable Æ'2.8 maximum aperture. On a crop-sensor body, that becomes 60mm, good for portraits.

The lens focusses down to 16.3 cm (6.4 inches), giving a 1:1 sized image on the sensor.

It has a natural focal length of 60mm (FX equivalent) and a large f/2.8 aperture that lets photographers shoot both close up shots and as well as flattering portraiture. It is touted to be fast, with whisper quiet autofocus operation, and makes use of Nikon's Silent Wave Motor technology.

LG Optimus Net announced – 3.2″ screen running Android 2.3.3

The new LG Optimus Net seems to being pitched as an upgrade of the popular Optimus One, although there's not a huge amount of difference inside, just a boost to an 800MHz Qualcomm processor – the MSM 7227T. The screen is a 3.2″ capacitive model running at 320×480, plus there's a 3megapixel camera capable of VGA resolution video. What you do get is software updates, with the Optimus Net arriving with Android 2.3.3 onboard and LG's 2.0 user interface tweaks.

Great news for HTC Desire Z users (well, for those of you who still haven't rooted your phone for a custom ROM) - according to the Romanian HTC Facebook page, the official Gingerbread update is coming very soon. While it isn't the end of June ETA promised previously, it still falls in summer, which was the estimate for when the Desire family phones would be getting the update anyway. The Gingerbread update for the HTC Desire Z is in its final testing phase right now, and the roll-out should begin at the end of the month, though some carriers will be getting it earlier than others.

HP Play music syncing service hits beta, almost ready to give AirPlay a pinch

HP clearly feels the need to play a little catch-up if it wants to rival Apple and Android with its WebOS phones and tablets. It's starting yet another connected music service, called HP Play, to cater specifically for owners of the TouchPad, Veer, and potentially other webOS devices like the Pre 3. The beta has just launched and by all measures it's an extremely basic affair — like, iTunes 2001 basic: no OTA syncing, no cloud storage and no store.

Sprint won't get the HP Pre 3

The HP Pre 3 is the first high-end webOS-powered smartphone to be developed after HP purchased Palm. And while it's still not available in the US, it is coming soon, and, HP hopes, will put webOS back on the map, so to speak. Sprint was the launch partner for the original Pre, a device that was supposed to help Palm become a major player in the smartphone space yet again. We all know how well that turned out for Palm, with the company having to sell itself to HP and all that. And Sprint's relationship with Palm (and webOS products) has been also affected by that original contract, it seems.
