Carl Zeiss Cinemizer OLED HMD

Head mounted displays are no longer that new in the multimedia device market. There have been some of them already being peddled around for people to use and enjoy watching their favorite videos or listening to their favorite tunes while wearing them, like the Sony HMZ T2. But most of them may be a bit bulky and may not be that stylish enough for some to wear comfortably. A new entrant in the market in the form of the Carl Zeiss Cinemizer OLED HMD may help change that.
The Carl Zeiss Cinemizer OLED HMD is not entirely a new head mounted display since the company has been exhibiting it and the technology it comes with since 2008.

Famed iOS hacker Comex is no longer with Apple, but don't expect any jailbreaks from him anytime soon

Famed iOS hacker Comex is no longer with Apple, but don't expect any jailbreaks from him anytime soon

A while back it was pretty big news when prominent iOS hacker, Comex, or Nicholas Allegra as he is known in real life, was hired by Apple. Given his work on JailbreakMe, a jailbreak tool that could be used within Safari, we guess Apple was right in snapping him up, possibly in an effort to help identify and close exploits. While we'd love to think that he's still at Apple busy working on making life harder for hackers to jailbreak iOS devices, that is unfortunately not that case as in an interview with Forbes, Allegra revealed that he is no longer with Apple.

Microsoft employees have donated over $1 billion to charity

For those who follow tech news, you would know that it has been some time since we have seen Bill Gates be the main star at a Microsoft press conference, but recently, he surfaced for a rather unusual event at Microsoft's headquarters. Joining Chief Executive Steve Ballmer alongside a slew of other dignitaries, Bill Gates helped announce a milestone in the Microsoft employee giving program that kick started 30 years ago, surpassing the magical $1 billion mark.

The Onion skewers TED Talks with compost-fueled cars

As innovative and inspiring as the TED Conference has been over it's now 20-year history, and in spite of the success of the spin-off TED Talks video series, we admit to finding all of the above mildly pretentious sometimes. This sentiment, magnified about 100X, is felt by the hooligans at The Onion as well, if this latest video series is any indication. Follow the action as our Idea Guy/Host tells the world about a composting car that will create jobs, save the environment, provide a windfall for engineers talented in the implementation of the impossible, and make one dreamer very, very rich.

Hyundai, Broadcom to equip vehicles with built-in ethernet

Hyundai is the second manufacturer after BMW – having put its Flexray ethernet system into the X5 – to pledge to install Ethernet technology in its cars. This isn't a ploy to give you yet another place to work on those regional sales spreadsheets, it's about reducing vehicle complexity while making the cars and their systems more efficient. The Korean manufacturer will be doing so in conjunction with Broadcom, the U.S. firm having created the "one pair Ethernet" (OPEN) special interest group that now counts 81 members.

Watch The Greatest R/C Car Chase Ever

Watch The Greatest R/C Car Chase Ever

What's the recipe for a great automotive chase scene. Well, first you need to have cars – cool cars, fast cars or classic cars, preferably, along with some machines to actually. well, give chase. Police cars work well, naturally, and they better be fast enough to keep up.
Throw in some scenery that matches the mood of the chase, an appropriate sound track with realistic engine sounds and some suspense-building music, a litany of camera angles – a helicopter overhead couldn't hurt – and a script that includes virtually impossible stunts, crashes and explosions.

Rumor: The iPad Mini will not be HD, sports a 4:3 ratio

It was easy to assume that since Apple's last iOS device went widescreen, we'd see the iPad mini go to a 16:9 form factor as well. However, according to some leaked pics from ETrade Supply, it looks like Apple's smallest tablet will be sporting the same 4:3 ratio as full-size iPads. The leak also tips the dimensions: the screen is 162mm long and 124mm wide. These photos answer a whole bunch of questions we had about the device we'll probably see revealed on October 23. The text on the back of the display says it's manufactured by LG Display (which we kind of suspected) and the markings seem legit and in line with other Apple parts.

While the board of executives from both Deutsche Telekom and MetroPCS have given the deal their blessing, we guess there were some shareholders who weren't too pleased about it. It seems that some of MetroPCS' shareholders have filed a lawsuit against T-Mobile USA, Deutsche Telekom (T-Mobile USA's parent company), and MetroPCS for apparently undervaluing the company. The deal is expected to bump share prices to $12.48, which apparently the shareholders of MetroPCS feel is too low since a stock analyst has recently pegged MetroPCS' shares to hit $18.

iPhone 5 production slows as Apple improves aluminum quality

iPhone 5 production slows as Apple improves aluminum quality

Bloomberg is reporting that Apple's iPhone 5 production is slowing, as it attempts to cut the number of devices shipped with nicks and scratches by improving aluminum quality control at Foxconn. It's only natural for aluminum to scuff and scratch, and putting a phone together offers plenty of opportunities for it to happen - but in reality, phones shouldn't be shipped in a state where they're already damaged. Clearly Apple realizes that.
Currently the quality clampdown means fewer of the phone's metal housings are being approved for use - to the extent that Foxconn even had to halt production for a day at one factory Shenzhen.

Your phone's thirsty for Coke, not batteries

Your phone's thirsty for Coke, not batteries

Most of our modern day smartphones run on lithium ion batteries, and while advancements have been made to increase the battery capacity so that theoretically, battery life is stretched as well, but smartphone manufacturers tend to negate that advantage by introducing even more energy sapping features and functions in newer devices. How about this – a phone that can be "charged" anywhere in the world, as long as there is some sweetened water, or in this case, Coca-Cola.

New study suggests link between teenage aggression and violent games

Researchers at Canada's Brock University claim to have discovered a link between violent games and aggression in teenagers, stating that long-term players of such games are more likely to engage in hostile behaviour. As reported by The Telegraph, the psychological study took place across four years, asking 1,492 teenagers from eight different schools to report their aggressive behaviour - such as punching and kicking each other - over the entire time. Their answers were then correlated with data of how often they played violent video games, with the results suggesting a link between the two.

That's exactly what happened Saturday night when Toyota lent a hand pulling the retired spacecraft over a bridge en route to the California Science Center. As it turned out, the Manchester Boulevard Bridge couldn't stand up to the weight of both the shuttle and the traditional tow vehicle, which sent organizers searching for something a little lighter to cover the five-minute drive across the bridge. As a 20-year sponsor of the science center, Toyota stepped in to help out.
