As the battle between Samsung and Apple closed out another week in US District Court, lawyers for the latter focused its argument on evidence and testimony covering a presentation Apple made to Samsung in 2010, and its offer to license the patents. AllThingsDhas the deck of slides from the meeting (embedded after the break), specifying areas and specific patents Apple believes Android as an OS infringes or things Samsung specifically copied elements from, plus a report on testimony from Apple executive Boris Teksler.

Next iPhone's tiny docking connector possibly spotted

Next iPhone's tiny docking connector possibly spotted

We've seen the rumored next iPhone's minuscule docking port more than once. Any of the cabling that plugs into that port, however, has been non-existent until today. If photos slipped to Nowhereelse.fr are more than just flights of fancy, they show a much narrower and possibly slimmer connector that matches up with the hole we've seen. It's so small that a full-size USB connector dwarfs it by comparison, and there's only eight contact pins per side (or possibly total) versus the 30 overall that we know today.

Motorola RAZR XT910 Android 4.0 roll-out begins today

It's been a long wait but the Android 4.0 update is finally ready to hit the international Motorola RAZR XT910. We have information that the roll-out for the update will begin today and if you have this handset you should stop reading and check if the update is available for download on your phone. Apparently, the hold-up was due to T-Mobile refused to sign-off on the update because they wanted to customize the ROM on the phone to their liking, something that Google did not allow as Motorola is now owned by Google.

Jelly Bean port brings new life to Google's first Android smartphone [video]

. Crafty hackers on the forums overs at XDA-Developers have shown just what patience and hard work can accomplish. SoCal Devs on Thursday released a working Jelly Bean ROM for Google's (GOOG) first Android smartphone, the T-Mobile G1. The OS is a bit slow on the old software and a bunch of features had to be omitted, but Wi-Fi and the touchscreen are working, as is Google Now - partially at least. Screen rotation and cellular data are not yet functioning.

When it comes to technology and the end of a financial quarter, you can bet your wage there'll be an analyst report or two letting you what's what. And according to Gartner's latest estimates for Western Europe, PCs didn't fare too well in Q2 of this year, with a 2.4 percent decrease in shipments compared with the same period in 2011. Consignments of mobile PCs (read: not tablets) grew by 4 percent, while desktops floundered, dropping 12.8 percent. Of this, a minor growth of 0.4 percent was recorded in consumer PCs, while the professional market decreased by 5.3 percent.

TiVo Premiere 4 confirmed early, promises a 4-tuner DVR for the masses

TiVo owners who've wanted to record any more than two shows at a time or use more recent technology like MoCA have had to look towards the wallet-busting Premiere XL4, at least if they didn't happen to rely on a cable provider bundling the Premiere Q. Thankfully, TiVo has told Zatz Not Funny that a more affordable Premiere 4 option is on the way. The new DVR will still require QAM digital cable or FiOS TV for its tuners to sing, but its 500GB of space will likely lead to a significant price cut versus the 2TB-touting XL4 - if also a whole lot of deleted old shows.

This camera is expected to be the EOS 6D that will look like the 7D, but is expected to sport a 22MP image sensor similar to that of the 5D MK III. OpenGL ES 3.0 and OpenGL 4.3 squeeze textures to the limit, bring OpenVL along for the ride

Mobile graphics are clearly setting the agenda at SIGGRAPH this year — ARM's Mali T600-series parts have just been chased up by a new Khronos Group standard that will likely keep those future video cores well-fed. OpenGL ES 3.0 represents a big leap in textures, introducing “guaranteed support” for more advanced texture effects as well as a new version of ASTC compression that further shrinks texture footprints without a conspicuous visual hit. OpenVL is also coming to give augmented reality apps their own standard.

Jcarrz1, the same wizard from XDA-Developers who ported Ice Cream Sandwich to the HTC G1, has managed to port a buggy build of CyanogenMod 10 to the handset - which puts Jelly Bean on the oldest hardware possible. Sadly, the old handset isn't up to Project Butter's 60FPS interface, but brave tweakers can still use the device's touchscreen for apps, CM10 features and a partially functional Google Now. WiFi is also up and running, but cellular data is MIA.

NPD: Apple, Samsung control 55 percent of the smartphone market, prepaid sales up 91 percent

According to NPD DisplaySearch, Apple and Samsung control more than half of the American smartphone market. The second-quarter figures reveal that while contract phone sales are flatter than month-old soda, those for pre-paid handsets have shot up by 91 percent compared to the same quarter last year. The upswing is credited to last year's flagship handsets falling down the price ladder, snaring lower-income customers who were unable to afford to be early adopters. Cornering that element of the market has helped the battling duo increase their sales by 43 percent, leaving the rest of the technology pantheon scraping around for crumbs.

Audi ties new TT-RS to IMSA GTO-conquering 90 Quattro

"A race car has a soul.". So says Hand-Joachim Stuck, winner of the 1990 DTM Championship behind the wheel of the iconic Audi 90 Quattro. Not surprisingly, Audi would love you to draw a connection between the soul of the turbocharged five-cylinder-powered Quattro of old with the soul-stirring new TT-RS. Successful racing heritage is, after all, a major selling point of this class of cars.

But does the old 90 Quattro really have anything to do with the new TT-RS? Well, that's debatable. If nothing else, both cars feature a turbocharged five underhood along with all-wheel drive.

Ford Motor Company knows a thing or two about building an empire on the back of a rock-bottom-priced automobile sold to customers in rural regions. That's why the company's strategy in China has been baffling to some analysts. Fords are expensive in China, and there are only a few models that you can get there. This is a problem for Ford, especially as the market for new cars in China, once hotter than the sun, cools a bit. With other markets plumbing new depths, Bloomberg reports that Ford is going back to something like Henry's own game plan.
