Roving Power Professional Power Pack review

Roving Power Professional Power Pack review

I have become a huge fan of the portable battery backup solutions.  I have reviewed numerous ones here on the Gadgeteer and purchased numerous ones for family members.  In fact I have 3 backup battery solutions right now among the items in my daily gear, so I am a fan.  But all those solutions only work with my portable gadgets like cellphones, tablets, and Bluetooth gear.  I have never had one that was designed to provide my laptop a backup battery because all those other solutions aren't beefy enough to handle a true laptop.  Until now.  Enter the Roving Power Professional Power Pack (herein after referred to as the 'Roving').

Lenovo Yoga 2 Pro Review

Lenovo Yoga 2 Pro Review

Lenovo introduced its original Yoga back in late 2012, which we were impressed with its ability to create an ultrabook that is able to have multiple functions, such as its ability to be used as a tablet or a stand. Since then, Lenovo re-introduced its Yoga as the Yoga 2 Pro, which improved on many of the ultrabooks internal specs, such as including Intel's new 4th-generation Haswell processor, offering a QHD+ 3200 x 1800 display and some other fancy bells and whistles to make this appeal to fans of the original Yoga.

LG Reportedly Wanted Nexus 5 To Be Called Nexus G

For the past few years, Google hasn't highlighted manufacturers of its Nexus devices in their monikers. Take the Nexus S for example which came out in 2010, it was manufactured by Samsung and the “S” was an obvious reference to the manufacturer's Galaxy S line.

MapQuest Launches Redesigned iPhone, Android App

Prior to Google Maps, MapQuest was the king of direction giving, although we're sure if you used the service, you ended up with directions that were actually less accurate than Apple Maps. Either way, people trusted MapQuest back in the day and the service is now attempting to win back its old users by completely redesigning its mobile apps on iOS and Android. The new MapQuest app, which is launching today, offers a seamless, customizable and driver-friendly navigation experience for those who are hoping to get to their destination as quickly and efficiently as possible.

Facebook Messenger update with Holo redesign now available for everyone

Facebook Messenger update with Holo redesign now available for everyone

It was only a couple of weeks ago that Facebook began issuing an upgrade to their Facebook Messenger app to select beta users. This upgrade brought us a complete redesign, giving us a healthy helping of the #HOLOYOLO UI we've all come to know and love. It was kind of a big deal — Facebook seemingly hated Holo. Well, the fact that their main app hasn't been upgraded to follow the latest Android design guidelines led us to believe that much, anyway.

"Xbox On" Voice Command Boots Up The Console In 13 Seconds

So we know that the Microsoft Xbox One console will be able to boot up using voice commands but exactly how fast will it be able to do so. Well Microsoft's Major Nelson recently posted a video showing the Xbox One console starting up itself with a voice command that was detected using the Kinect's microphone, and it seems that it's a pretty fast ordeal. According to the video, the console was able to start up in a mere 13 seconds which we have to admit is a pretty cool feature.

ZTE Eco-Mobius Concept Modular Smartphone

ZTE Eco-Mobius Concept Modular Smartphone

The idea of a modular handset is not new at all, where just a couple of months back, we talked about the Phonebloks concept that certainly stoked the interest of many. Well, it seems that China-based ZTE Corporation might be on to something this time around with a conceptual idea of a possible modular smartphone. This conceptual device is known as the ZTE Eco-Mobius, and it sure as heck does seem to look pretty sweet, even picking up Red Dot Design Award along the way. Right at the heart of the Eco-Mobius, it will feature a quartet of main modules – the display, core, camera and battery.

Verizon's Moto X Dropped To $49.99 On Contract

Just the other day Verizon announced that they would be dropping the price of the Moto X handset to a mere $99.99 on contract. Well it turns out that for whatever reason, Verizon has decided to discount the Moto X even further and if you were to hit up Verizon's website, you'd be able to get your hands on the device for an even more affordable $49.99. This offer is apparently via the Moto Maker website as well and the $50 discount will be done when you are reaching the checkout section, so don't worry if it still lists the price at $99.99. Like we said we don't know why Verizon is discounting the Moto X shortly after its first price cut.

Unencrypted Credit Card And CCV Numbers Stolen

Security in the digital age can be quite a touchy subject, especially when you consider just how breaches in the past such as the debacle surrounding Adobe recently, leaking out information of approximately 3 million accounts. Apparently, those reports were conservative at best, where the actual impact is said to have touched the 150 million mark. Not only that, Microsoft also did report on a major IE11 vulnerability that was being actively exploited, although that hole was patched relatively quickly.

Right on schedule, an update to the Google Search app is now rolling out on Google Play. Besides bringing new “What to watch,” News topic,” and “Website update” cards to Google Now, the update also introduces a little hidden functionality as well, but more on that later. New Siri-like conversational voice commands we told you about last week were also added. Users can have a much more natural dialog within Google Search, with the app asking for clarification when multiple options exist or further confirmation is needed to perform an action.

China Will Begin Building This Wavy Pedestrian Bridge In 2014

If you live in a major metropolitan city, you'll know how important having designated areas for pedestrians to walk around is. Bridges are also equally as important as they certainly make it easier to travel from one side to another as showing up to work drenched from a river or lake is something none of us want. With that said, we're not quite sure if this latest pedestrian bridge design is either genius or terrifying. . NEXT Architects created this design for a pedestrian bridge that is expected to be built over the Dragon King Harbor River in Changsha, China.

McLaren calls up Kevin Magnussen to replace Sergio Perez

The 2013 Formula One World Championship is drawing to a close, and you know what that means: the big game of musical chairs is kicking into high gear. We already know that Mark Webber is leaving the series, with Daniel Ricciardo called up to fill his seat at Red Bull and Daniil Kvyat promoted to Toro Rosso in turn. Kimi Raikkonen is switching back to Ferrari from Lotus, and yesterday we learned that Felipe Massa is moving to Williams. Although McLaren has yet to officially announce, news of its latest hire is being widely reported in the motorsport press.

2015 Subaru WRX leaks out ahead of debut (video)

The car you see above could, possibly, be the 2015 Subaru WRX, a car that isn't supposed to reach the public eye until next week's Los Angeles Auto Show. The leaked image has been circulating around the web, along with a brief teaser video of the new sports sedan (which you can see below). The image, which AutoWeek reports may be (probably) a render, appeared on the Clubrz Facebook page, a Subaru fan group. It does fit somewhat with the teaser image we showed you yesterday, while featuring certain styling cues from the WRX Concept shown at the last New York Auto Show.

Now, we'd advise you take this with an appropriately sized grain of salt.

Twitter Data Consumption Problem For Windows Phone Fixed

The other day we reported that for some reason or the other, Twitter for Windows Phone had started to consume way more data than was necessary. This was due to the app constantly pulling profile images from Twitter's servers, causing the app to use more data than was required or normal, and according to some reports, there were users who actually managed to hit 3GB of data within a week which is definitely not normal, at least not as far as the average user is concerned.

Major Google Hangouts bug lets emoji spammers lock up the app; Google already on the case

An unfortunate bug seems to have surfaced in the latest Hangouts app for Android. Reddit user Recon0212 initially reported the bug, which could be experience-breaking for many people. So what's going on. Well, if you are in a Hangout with many people — 12 for Recon — you could potentially lock up the participants' app by spamming them with emojis. This means you'd be unable to enter the app and do anything. Pretty scary, right?

Thankfully, Google has been made aware of the bug. Googler Dan Morril chimed in on the Reddit thread and confirmed that he was able to reproduce the bug in the presence of a product manager.

Forza 5 Trailer Hails The McLaren P1

Forza 5 Trailer Hails The McLaren P1

Most people I know would love to earn an insane amount of money while doing what they love, and at the same time, spend like there is no tomorrow since money is extremely easy to come by. Well, that would include living it up in the best homes, swankiest neighborhoods, and driving the newest supercars that have just been revealed. Perhaps the majority of us are unable to earn such a keep throughout our entire lifetime, so the closest we can come to driving a supercar without begging our rich friend to lend us their ride would be to play a video game.
