Harmonix launches Rock Band World social app on Facebook

Harmonix launches Rock Band World social app on Facebook

Sometimes the most fun games aren't necessarily the ones with the best story or the best action, but the one that you constantly beat your friends in. It's an amazing feeling and we're sure that there are many gamers out there who would probably agree with us. That being said, if you and your friends are still trying to beat each other in Rock Band 3 or Rock Band Blitz, well, now your exploits can be shown off to everyone on your Facebook. This is thanks to Harmonix recently releasing a new social app for Facebook dubbed "Rock Band World".

Be a Photographic Gunslinger with the Quikdraw Holster

This is a Kickstarter project.  If you like to change lenses frequently while you're taking photos, you'll have to drag a bag around with you to hold the extra lenses.  You'll waste valuable time looking for the right lens, then taking off the back end cap, then stopping to put away the replaced lens.  With a Quikdraw lens holster, you have your extra lens safely stored on your belt and ready to mount in a second.  The holster is made of aircraft aluminum and high-strength precision molded plastic, and it will attach to any standard belt.  (The photo shows three Quikdraw holsters.)  The lens mounts to the holster with the same mounting

Case manufacturers create iPad mini cases based on rumored dimensions

While the iPad mini has not been confirmed by the folks at Apple just yet, according to the leaked photos and whatnot, it supposedly resembles a larger iPod touch with thinner bezels on its side. While it remains to be seen if those rumors and mockups are right on the money, some case manufacturers have taken it upon themselves (via GizChina) to start creating cases for the tablet which seems to be consistent with the leaked dimensions. Of course there is a chance that these manufacturers have their facts wrong.

We don't have too many bad words to say about Klipsch, so when we heard it was refreshing its Quintet home theater system, we listened up. The eponymous-ish five speaker system has been a mainstay of the Klipsch line since 1998, and this is the fifth (too many 5s?) iteration. The new goodies. This time 'round each speaker has a 90 degree by 90 degree "Tractrix" horn for expanded listening area and a new Linear Travel Suspension aimed at reducing distortion and improving dynamics - new woofers have also been added.

Robots are slowly finding their way into our daily lives. Although any robot revolution against humans may still be afar off, robots have finally been developed to serve people in a variety of helpful ways. There is now a robotic vacuum cleaner that automatically cleans the floor in homes with little human assistance. Then there is the robotic butler that Honda has been developing over the years in Asimo. Honda tries to give Asimo a partner this time and has developed the new Honda Miimo Robotic Lawn Mower.

The Honda Miimo is designed to help people cut grass and trim their lawns when people don't feel like it.

Google grabs glove-based input patent, could spell out gesture control

Google might have already patented some nifty eye-tracking controls, but that doesn't mean it isn't considering other sensory input. A recently granted patent hints at a potential glove-based controller, with references to a pair of detectors that record “images” of an environment, and then determine gestures based on the calculated movement between them. The illustrations go on to show a hand drawing out the letter J, indicating it could be used for text input, while another suggests recognition of pinch-to-zoom style gestures.

Ready to unlock the bootloader on an older Motorola device? Not so fast

. Consumers waited over a year for Motorola to finally ease up on its controversial bootloader policy. While its smartphones continued to sell well, a small fraction of the Internet was left unsatisfied. Last week, the company launched its online bootloader unlocking tool, and even though the service was only available for a limited number of devices, it represented a step in the right direction. It seems Motorola can't take a step forward without taking two steps back, however.

It was almost as inevitable as gravity, really. Rovio has teamed up with NASA to offer a special, Curiosity-themed episode inside Angry Birds Space. The trek has the avians scouring 20 levels of the Martian landscape with a few bonuses thrown in for good measure. Just like your favorite childhood breakfast cereal, there's even a token healthy ingredient - in this case, a chance for gamers to learn about Curiosity's exploration whenever they're not busy smashing pigs. Android and iOS users can dip into the new chapter right after they update, but that's not even the full extent of Rovio's plans.

Baby-driven robots have a bright future

If you happen to have a typical five month old infant, or at least had one, you would realize that your infant might find it rather difficult to sit up at that age, while the crawling milestone is still months away, but a few babies already have an idea on how to get around by steering their very own mobile robots. These robots were specially designed to enable babies with disabilities to get around independently, so that parents need not worry about their little one falling behind in development compared to their peers.

Local officials and the FCC told the mobile network that its towers were blocking police communication, particularly when patrol cars were within a quarter-mile of one. However, some local pundits have said the problem is of the PD's own making, claiming it invested in an inferior system and didn't check carefully enough for interference before making the buy.

When are people going to learn that posting videos of themselves on YouTube doing something illegal is impossibly stupid can be used against them in a court of law. Motorcycles carelessly speeding through traffic at triple-digit speeds are one thing, but driving around in the suburbs randomly shooting a handgun out of the window is every bit as asinine. This is the predicament that Ronnie Michael Wynn of Vancouver, Washington finds himself in after police discovered a video that the 23-year-old posted of himself on YouTube and Facebook.

White hatters working for Intel's McAfee security division are taking the lead in protecting computers and electronic communications systems that are built into every modern car. Although there have been no reports so far of violent computer attacks targeted at cars, security experts believe that automakers have so far failed to "adequately protect its systems." This leaves its customers vulnerable to hacks by attackers who are planning to steal cars, eavesdrop on conversations, or even harm passengers by causing vehicles to crash.

We weren't aware of the Toronto Batman before we saw this video, but apparently he gets around. Making a stop in London, he crashes a review of the Hyundai i30 by journalist Rory Reid and – being a rather high-strung Canadian Batman still upset about his parents being dead – starts off by issuing an uncomplimentary single-word verdict on every one of the i30's features. He's then taken for a ride and given a chance to change his mind as he tries to get the Hyundai to swear allegiance to him or at least play a CD using the car's voice recognition system.
