Time Warner Cable iOS app adds access to On-Demand programming

When it was first released, I reviewed the iOS app from Time Warner Cable that allowed you to watch selected channels from their programming lineup on your iOS device.  They've added some channels since the release, but the functions remained pretty much the same.

Earthquakes Linked To Wastewater Disposal From Fracking

Earthquakes Linked To Wastewater Disposal From Fracking

Scientists are trying to prove that the recent rise in earthquakes are linked to wastewater disposal from shale gas hydrofracking. Evidence shows that the significant rise in seismic activity over the last few years in the U.S. coincide with the rise of hydraulic fracturing, a method for extracting oil and natural gas which usually involves injecting water and chemicals into shale rock. And since fracking produces large quantities of wastewater, drilling companies use deep wells to dispose the waste. Scientists believe that these wells are the main culprit to the rise of earthquakes in the U.S.

2013 Subaru WRX Special Edition

2013 Subaru WRX Special Edition

Two months ago, I was carving pumpkins in a canyon – last week I was carving canyons in a pumpkin. I genuinely prefer the latter. It's hard to miss the 2013 Subaru WRX Special Edition. The twins (the automaker is offering the package on both the WRX and its higher-performing STI sibling – just 300 copies in total) arrive in Tangerine Orange paint with Jet Black wheels, black exterior mirrors and black front fender badges.

Alcatel's One Touch View Windows Phone gets an official promo video

The Alcatel One Touch View is being released in Russia, and it just received its first official promo video. Not only is this sanctioned by its maker, it's to be found on Alcatel's official YouTube page. The Alcatel One Touch View is the first Windows Phone to bear that brand, and it's going to run WP 7.8. That's right, not the latest and greatest WP 8, but the version focused on lower-end hardware going forward. Strangely though, the device shown in the video clearly isn't running WP 7.8, but some variant of 7.5. That's because 7.8 got the new, wide home screen (with no arrow key to the right) featured first in WP 8.

2013 Bentley Continental GT V8

2013 Bentley Continental GT V8

The Entry Entry-Level Bentley. I have a friend who once told me that he would never buy the cheapest version of anything. I pressed him about cars and figured he was backed into a corner when I mentioned Bentley. With only the Continental series of cars – GT coupe, GTC convertible, Flying Spur four-door – and Mulsanne sedan on offer, surely this friend of mine would go for something like the Continental GT coupe over the larger, much more expensive Mulsanne.

Microsoft To Discontinue Windows Live Mesh, Aims For SkyDrive Adoption

Microsoft has just announced that they will no longer be offering support for their Windows Live Mesh service, which essentially is a file and desktop sharing service that is currently being used by an estimated 25,000 people. That might sound like a lot, but in reality, it is pittance, and Microsoft figured out that it just ain't worth the time and effort dedicated resources to keep Live Mesh alive.

Consumer Reports: Toyota expected to announce fix for emergency trunk releases

According to Consumer Reports, Toyota is set to release a fix for trunk release pulls on certain Lexus vehicles that could snap off in an emergency. As you may recall, CR found the federally-mandated emergency releases could break if pulled toward the user. As it turned out, the trunk surround behaved like a fulcrum, putting more force against the center of the release than toward the trunk mechanism itself.

Apple Found Guilty Of Infringing Patents Owned By MobileMedia

Apple has just received a taste of its own bitter medicine. That's because the U.S. court has just ruled earlier today that almighty Apple is guilty of infringing three patents owned by MobileMedia Ideas. The infringed patents are said to include a call rejection patent, a patent that details a method to control call statuses, and another involving a camera display. A jury has decided that Apple “unlawfully” used MobileMedia's technologies.

'Show or Display' rule used to import pair of Skylines into the US... legally

What's that old saying, "the grass is always greener" is it. That notion rings especially true for enthusiasts of foreign sports cars, where great efforts are often taken to import these supremely rare performance machines. Some of the more difficult cars to import are the right-hand-drive JDM sportscars like the Mazda RX-7 and Acura NSX. Of this assortment of 90's sports car awesomeness, perhaps the most lauded and difficult to import is the RHD Nissan Skyline GT-R, but someone just figured out how.

Nokia Lumia 920 is the 4th most purchased phone on AT&T, according to analyst

The Nokia Lumia 920 is turning out to be a pretty popular device, but to what extent is its popularity. Is it popular enough to compete with the likes of the iPhone 5. The Samsung Galaxy S3 and such. Well as it turns out, according to analyst William Power from R.W. Baird, it seems that the Nokia Lumia 920 is the fourth most purchase handset from AT&T! Of course this does not mean that Nokia is selling Lumia 920 handsets by the boatload, but it's a pretty good indication that this is a phone that many people seem to be interested in.

Coda Automotive undergoes 'massive layoffs'

Coda Automotive undergoes 'massive layoffs'

Plug In Cars is reporting that there have been "massive layoffs" at California electric vehicle startup Coda Automotive. Apparently, more than 50 employees, "including a substantial part of its sales and marketing staff," were let go according to an anonymous source. The source said the situation was a "real mess," and that, "They just cut everybody they possibly could.". That things have come to this is perhaps not exactly a surprise. Sales have been slow – not even 100 units of the company's $37,250 all-electric sedan have been sold since it went on sale in March, then there was a safety recall and reviews haven't been kind.

T-Mobile rolls out more iPhone-ready networks

T-Mobile rolls out more iPhone-ready networks

Come 2013, T-Mobile will finally be able to say that they officially offer Apple's iOS products on their network, but at the same time this would mean that T-Mobile needs to hurry up with the rollout of their iPhone-ready networks. Well the good news is that T-Mobile has announced that they have recently rolled out networks in additional cities that will allow the iPhone to hook onto its HSPA+ offering. Granted it's not 4G LTE, but for some this isn't a big deal especially since LTE tends to be something of a battery drainer. These cities include:.

Sphero Robot Ball review

Sphero Robot Ball review

My initial thought when Julie asked the Gadgeteer Team, who would like to review the Sphero was ‘cute but I'll pass'. But upon further consideration, it occurred to me that I have an 11 yr old, tech-savvy son, spaz of a dog and insane cat at home just waiting for something like this to enter their domain, thus making me (and the Fam) a prime candidate for Sphero. So, the Gadgeteer Kid and I will be checking it out and letting you all know what we think . My commentary will be in standard black and .

Sphero is a very cue-ball looking robotic sphere that you control with your Bluetooth-enabled smartphone or tablet.
