Apple To Offer SIM-free iPhone 5s In The US

Apple To Offer SIM-free iPhone 5s In The US

For a while Apple has been selling the iPhone 5s via their online stores, although the caveat is that you'd have to buy it locked to any of the major carriers and sign a new two-year deal with the company. Well the good news is that if you were thinking about picking up an iPhone 5s for yourself but don't want to be tied to a contract for whatever reason, you might be interested to learn that Apple is now selling SIM-free iPhone 5s units via their online store.

Charge your phone with your power tools

Charge your phone with your power tools

I have a handyman working in my new (to me) condo this week, and I've noticed his Android phone gets some use.  If he needed, he could get a recharge by plugging his phone into a outlet in my house, but what if he were working on a construction site that may not have a power outlet he could use.  Instead of carrying a backup battery or keeping a bulky battery case on his phone, he could just keep the PoweriSite charger in his pocket and top off his phone from any Dewalt power tool battery.  This Kickstarter device provides 3.1A, so you can charge a tablet, too.

Leak claims Samsung Galaxy S4, Note 3 to receive Android 4.4 KitKat in January

As Android 4.4 starts to arrive on handsets outside of the Nexus 5, it's only a matter of time before the major players on the market start to see their update to KitKat. This include the Samsung Galaxy S4 and Galaxy Note 3, and we may have our first indication of when users of those handsets can expect Google's latest vision. According to an image that is purported to show Samsung's release schedule for KitKat, both handsets should see the update in January.

The GoBe is a flashlight with multiple personalities

The GoBe is a flashlight with multiple personalities

We live in a world of uncertainty – hurricanes, typhoons, earthquakes, tornados, blizzards. I would venture to say that most of us have some sort of emergency kit set up for such occasions. One common item that we all probably carry is a flashlight. Unfortunately, most flashlights are limited by the design of the light source. You can get some lights that will let you adjust the light focus but not the brightness or some that are great for carrying but not flexible to be mounted to say a bike or backpack. The new GoBe flashlight by Light & Motion hopes to change the way we view flashlights.

BlackBerry Acquires ScrOON To Help Make BBM Profitable

BlackBerry Acquires ScrOON To Help Make BBM Profitable

BlackBerry's BBM app is free to use and comes bundled with BlackBerry phones, and has also made its way, also for free, onto iOS and Android devices. With the app being free, how does BlackBerry plan on making money from it. After all WhatsApp has a subscription service and LINE has in-app purchases to help generate revenue, so what can BBM do to help make money. While that remains to be seen, it looks like BlackBerry has recently made an acquisition in the form of ScrOOn that is a company that helps to manage the social media pages of large companies, such as Warner Bros.

More Developers Planning On Developing For Windows Phone In 2014

When it comes to app availability or variety, safe to say that iOS and Android are taking the top two spots, with both platforms numbering apps close to a million by now. Windows Phone is pretty far behind at over a hundred thousand, although if Joe Belfiore's promise is anything to go by, we can expect that gap to close by the end of 2014. While the executive's promise is one thing, it's really up to developers to decide if the Windows Phone platform is worth developing for, and the good news is that it looks like more developers are hopping on board come 2014.

Sony Xperia Z1S shows up on Postel

The Sony Xperia Z1S surely must be drawing closer to a release, right. It just showed up on Postel (the Indonesian equivalent of the FCC), which coincides with a brand new rumor of a Shanghai event. The Xperia Z1S has the model number D5503 and is sometimes called Z1 mini. A couple of spy shots next to its bigger sibling reveal the reason for the "mini" moniker – it has a 4.3x720p screen instead of 5x1080p, but keeps the Snapdragon 800 chipset and 20MP camera of the big Z1.

Anyway, the first time we heard of a launch at a Shanghai event, the planned date was November 12.

Toyota FV2 Concept is a single-seat mood ring for the road

Toyota FV2 Concept is a single-seat mood ring for the road

Of all the vehicles Toyota brought to the Tokyo Motor Show, the FV2 might be the most creative. The minimalist single-seat concept is a glimpse at Toyota's idea of a "fun to drive" vehicle in the future. The FV2 is essentially a pod with a diamond-shaped wheel array (what powers said wheels has not been disclosed), and Toyota says that the technology of the vehicle allows it to gauge the driver's mood and suggest possible destinations.

Huawei Ascend P6S Leaked Specs Do Not Hint At Octa-Core Processor

It does seem to be a case of conflicting signals here, as we did hear about the upcoming Huawei Ascend P6S to arrive with an octa-core processor according to the Huawei president, Xu Xin Quan. Apparently, that does not seem to be the case according to the most recent leak of the Huawei Ascend P6S' specifications as there was not a single sign that pointed to an octa-core CPU. It does seem as though this particular device will arrive with an upgraded version of the quad-core K3V2 Cortex A9 that can be found in the predecessor, the Ascend P6.

Huawei Ascend P6S with an octa-core CPU was supposedly confirmed two days ago by the companyÂ's president Xu Xin Quan. Today we got a new leak though and this one sharply contradicts the previous information. The new details on the Huawei Ascend P6S come straight from the China's TENAA certification authority. This time around we get to see a few live pictures of the device plus a glimpse of its specifications.

The P6S looks exactly the same as its predecessor, it even weighs 120 grams, but is 0.3mm thicker.

Behold the 2014 Nissan GT-R as dressed by Nismo and inspired by the GT3-spec race car that competed in this year's Nürburgring 24-hour race. Called the "ultimate iteration of Nissan's GT-R supercar," power goes up by 55 horsepower to 600 hp with updates like high-flow, large diameter turbos, and torque is "over 480 pound-feet," which means it's risen by at least 35 lb-ft. Helping to keep it right-way up and pointed in the right direction are a race-tuned suspension with a larger, hollow anti-roll bar, custom Bilstein DampTronic dampers and the use of high-rigidity bolts.

Valve To Unveil Their Own Virtual Reality Hardware In 2014

Virtual reality gaming is not new as we have seen the Oculus Rift being heavily used in a variety of video games, although the headset has yet to make its way to the masses. Well now it looks like Valve wants in on the virtual reality action too as the company has announced its Steam Dev Days speakers, and along with that have revealed an event which has been scheduled where the topic is about, "What VR Could, Should, and Almost Certainly Will Be within Two Years." Valve's Mike Abrash will be the one responsible for delivering the content during the event.

ESTOLAS Aircraft Hovers And Flies

ESTOLAS Aircraft Hovers And Flies

Have you ever watched science fiction movies, where the future featured flying vehicles where everyone seemed to be able to keep to the right of way without any accident happening. That is a true miracle, especially when you take into consideration how on our normal roads alone, one would be able to find at least an impatient driver who weaves in and out of traffic, wedging his or her car into whatever space possible without bothering to wait in line like the rest of us. Well, imagine translating that kind of attitude to a flying car – disaster awaits.

Dodge wants you to touch Ron Burgundy and win a prize

As if the tie-in between the 2014 Dodge Durango and fictional anchorman Ron Burgundy wasn't already odd enough, Dodge has come up with an equally bizarre contest to give away one of its SUVs. The "Hands on Ron Burgundy" contest kicks off tomorrow, and whoever can touch Ron the longest will drive off in a new 2014 Durango. While details are slim, it appears that the "touching" involves keeping your cursor on the moving "Touch Ron" button on the screen. Aside from that, you'll just have to wait until tomorrow to find out more.

The new Chevrolet Corvette Stingray has picked up another buff book accolade after capturing Road and Track's Performance Car of the Year award. The seventh-generation of America's sports car (sorry Viper, Mustang, et al.) has been named Automobile Magazine's Automobile of the Year. Automobile's award to the Corvette over competitors is the mirror image of its rival Motor Trend, which named the Cadillac CTS its car of the year over the C7. The CTS was, according to the Automobile team, the closest contender to the mighty Stingray.

iOS 7.1 Beta Download Available Now For Developers

iOS 7.1 Beta Download Available Now For Developers

It was back in September when Apple finally released iOS 7 to the public. Apple's latest and greatest iOS update, which totally changes the look and feel of the OS, has been very well received. Since the release, Apple has rolled out a few incremental updates to fix some bugs but it hasn't made any drastic changes. That would come in a major update like iOS 7.1. Today, iOS 7.1 beta download became available for registered developers, which confirms that Apple has already started working on the next big update.

As of now, it can't be said for sure exactly what new features Apple is going to add into iOS 7.1.

An estimated 113,162 racing fans joined 20 drivers as the only ones perspiring at Austin's Circuit of the Americas on Sunday, as the recently untouchable Sebastian Vettel seemed to hardly break a sweat as he raced to win the 2013 US Grand Prix. In doing so, the 26-year-old German secured his place in motorsports history with his eighth-consecutive Formula One win, pushing him ahead of racing legend Michael Schumacher, his personal hero, who had been holding the title with seven consecutive victories.

Raspberry Pi Sales Cross 2 Million

Raspberry Pi Sales Cross 2 Million

Miniature hobbyist computer Raspberry Pi has made quite a name for itself, its sales figures can certainly substantiate that. It is manufactured by the Raspberry Pi Foundation in the UK, though initially production took place in China, which has announced that it has sold over 2 million units around the globe. Raspberry Pi has achieved its second million milestone in just a touch under ten months, whereas it took it almost an entire year to rack up its first million sales. Earlier this year in January the Foundation announced that it had sold over 1 million units.

Aviation Regulators Failing Passenger Safety

AEI Secretary General Fred Bruggeman has informed delegates ahead of AEI’s 41st Annual Congress that “regulators are failing to uphold and protect passenger safety”. Evidence provided to congress revealed that more than 90% of aircraft defects only occur during a flight to home base, in other words on a flight to an airport where maintenance can be provided.

"Physician, heal thyself!" How many times have we heard of such a statement mentioned. Well, the very idea of a self-healing material has been mooted for quite some time already, but lately, such technology has been made affordable enough to be reproduced on a mass scale. When it comes to modern day devices, many people are concerned about the kind of battery life that these devices will offer, but what happens when there is a rechargeable battery down the road that is self-healing, which means they never need to be replaced.

AT&T Offering 50% Off Several Devices Priced Under $199

So we reported that AT&T was offering the Nokia Lumia 1520 at $99, which was essentially the price of the device if it were at 50% off. Well it turns out that the deal applies not just to the Lumia 1520, but a handful of other brand new devices as well, such as the Apple iPhone 5c. It turns out that AT&T is offering a 50% deal via its online store, although this 50% deal appears to be limited to its devices that are priced $199 or lower on a two-year contract. What this means is that devices like the iPhone 5c, which is priced at $99 normally, will go for $49 on contract instead, which we reckon seems like a pretty good deal.

Emoticons are used daily when we chat over instant messenger, with some messengers coming bundled with their own set of emoticons instead of relying on third-party alternatives. BBM is one of them and the messenger platform has had its own set of emoticons that they have been using for a while now. However if you think that some of the emoticons are dated, or perhaps could use a couple of new ones since the old ones don't really express how you feel, you're in luck because BlackBerry is now calling for users to submit their ideas for new BBM emoticons.

BlackBerry Z50 And Q30 Flagship Smartphones Rumored

In recent months we haven't heard a lot of rumors about future BlackBerry smartphones, that's because almost all speculation was focused on BlackBerry's future in the business. Since that has died down a bit now, we've finally beginning to hear whispers about expected product. Last week we heard that the company might be working on mid-range devices in its C-Series lineup. The latest rumors suggests that BlackBerry Z50 and Q30 will be next year's flagship smartphones from the Canadian manufacturer.
