Intel is patiently waiting for Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich to drop before releasing smartphones and tablets equipped with their processors. Adding to list of Android 4.0′s not highly publicized “features,” Ice Cream Sandwich is finally Intel x86 ready and the manufacturer hopes to have their first x86 powered smartphone launch sometime in the first half of next year. Currently, Android is mostly “ARM friendly,” providing chipset makers like Nvidia, Samsung and Qualcomm with a cashcow that just keeps on giving.

Sony Ericsson Xperia Arc S, Motorola Defy+ and LG Optimus Spirit announced by Telstra in Australia

Telstra, Australia's largest mobile operator, has announced no less than four new Android smartphones, all running 2.3 Gingerbread: Sony Ericsson Xperia Arc S, Motorola Defy+, LG Optimus Spirit, and the Telstra QWERTY Touch. Both the Motorola Defy+ and the LG Optimus Spirit are already available. The rugged Defy+ can be bought online here, while the Optimus Spirit (which is just a rebranded Optimus Net) can be bought here (it costs $149 on pre-pay).

ASUS Transformer Prime spotted in benchmark tests

While the ASUS Transformer Prime is far from being sold at retail outlets, it looks like ASUS (or somebody with access to the tablet) has been doing some benchmark testing with the tablet. While doing a review of the original Eee Pad Transformer using the AnTuTu benchmark app, the writers at Tech2 noticed an interesting entry in the results comparison chart. Right at the very top, miles ahead of the Galaxy Nexus was the ASUS Transformer Prime. While the screenshot posted shows a quad-core 1.4GHz version of the tablet, apparently there's a quad-core 1.6GHz Transformer Prime benchmarked with AnTuTu as well.

It looks like Microsoft is having a real busy week with Kinect - earlier this week it launched the “Kinect Effect” website and announced its upcoming commercial program. Today, on the day of the Kinect's first birthday, it launched a brand new Kinect for Windows website. The revamped website features more information about the Kinect for Windows commercial program that's coming early next year (something you business folk might want to check out). In addition to the launch of the brand new site, Microsoft has also announced the release of the new version of the Kinect for Windows SDK.

HTC's Rezound will ship with some nice earbuds. HTC has announced its new, perfectly adequate handset. Called the Rezound, this Android slab distinguishes itself in two ways. First is the 1970s future-o-vision styling, in glossy black with dark red accents. The second is that it will ship with some kick-ass Beats earbuds.

The rest of the specs aren't bad but neither are they anything different from the rest of the Android 2.3 world. The phone runs on a dual-core 1.5GHz Qualcomm processor and Adreno 220 GPU, comes with 1GB RAM, 16GB storage (plus microSD slot), and offers 2MP and 8MP cameras front and back.

The United States House of Representatives approved the Wireless Tax Fairness Act on Tuesday, an initiative that prevents new local and state taxes on wireless bills for the next five years. “We need to encourage the development and adoption of wireless broadband, not tax it out of existence,” Representative Zoe Lofgren said. The average tax rate on goods and services in the United States is 7.4% but consumers with wireless contracts pay an average of 16.4% in taxes and fees, WirelessWeek said.

I know that a number of professionals were interested in the HP Slate, and it so happens that it just got a refresh today with… the HP Slate 2. From the outside, it mostly looks the same, but there is now a 32GB option (the maximum is 64GB), the battery life has gained a theoretical 30mn and Swype for windows has been integrated, which is great because the default windows keyboard is not very good, and Swype is pretty awesome, especially on a tablet.

The biggest winner continues to be the Chrysler Group, which for the month of October 2011 posted a sales gain of 27 percent versus the same month last year. The Pentastar's ghoulishly good numbers are due among other things to Jeep, which enjoyed positively trending sales across the board except for the Grand Cherokee and a stellar performance from the Chrysler 200/Dodge Avenger duo. The new 200 alone added 11,205 sales to replace the Sebring's achievement of 2,221 sales last October. As for the other domestics, Ford Motor Company put up a 6.25-percent increase with no thanks to Lincoln, which was down 10.83 percent.

Nokia Ace spotted at the Design Museum?

At the Design Museum in Shad, Thames; a few Nokia phones have been put up for display, including the Nokia N9, and Nokia Lumia 800 and one more Nokia phone that we've never seen before. From the photographs it looks like a large, thin device, which is speculated to be the Nokia Ace, a phone that's been rumored about before, but never seen and supposed to make its appearance in Q1 2012. Though the Ace wasn't announced at Nokia World 2011, there's still a chance of the phone being announced at the beginning of next year - if the phone really exists at all.
