Apple patent reveals new way to share content between iOS devices

In yet another patent filed by Apple, this one reveals the company's plans to introduce a new form of content sharing between iOS devices. What so new about content sharing, you ask. Well, how about if you could share content between iOS devices by "pouring" or flicking files between each device. If that caught your attention, that's pretty much what Apple has in mind with their patent.

Poor 3-D TV Sales? Panasonic Blames Hollywood

Despite a plethora of 3-D films and television options, consumers aren't buying many 3-D TVs. Photo: Jon Snyder/Wired.com. Despite Hollywood's continued onslaught of 3-D films hitting the big screen, not many people are buying 3-D TVs.
Whose fault is that? Panasonic's marketing director Andrew Denham blames Hollywood for making such bad 3-D movies.

"Hollywood damaged 3-D by rushing so many badly converted films out in Avatar's wake", Denham said at the recent Intellect Consumer Electronics 2011 show. "What we need now is the next level, the next Avatar.

The Toshiba Thrive is the company's first foray into the Android tablet space. The Thrive became finally official in June after many months of leaks, for most of which it didn't even have a name. You've been able to pre-order one for quite a while, and a release was expected around the middle of this month. Yet the Thrive is already being sold by some stores, as we reported a few days ago.
And now it seems that you're able to get a Toshiba Thrive not only in brick-and-mortar stores, but online too. Well known retailer Newegg has put two versions of Toshiba's tablet up for grabs on its website.

How's hog-tying search terms sound as an alternative to plain old cut and paste. Well, according to Microsoft, it sounds mighty fine. The software giant just announced Lasso, a new touch-friendly search tool for the Bing iPad app that allows you to rope in your internet queries by circling a word or phrase. Once you've drawn the circle, Bing automatically generates a search using the selected words.

Crayola iMarker, a Kid-Friendly iPad Stylus

Crayola iMarker, a Kid-Friendly iPad Stylus

The Crayola iMarker looks just like a real marker, minus the healthy solvent smell. Kids love the iPad. They love to jab their sticky little fingers at its screen, they love to drool over its elegant glass and aluminum curves and they love to drop it onto floors, hard tiles and soft carpet alike. Clearly, they should be kept away from my iPad.

But if you have kids, and you're willing to let them use your $500+ tablet for such dubious reasons as “education” and “development,” then you might like to spend yet more money on the Crayola iMarker (made by Griffin).

However if the shakiness of your videos is starting to concern you and you're not looking to create the Cloverfield sequel, how about using military grade software vReveal to stabilize your videos.

Greenpeace debuts The Force: Episode II, lawyers anxious to axe it for money

In film, if you're going to parody a famous series, you've got to pay the piper. That's doubly true when it comes to the fiercely defended Star Wars lineage. Judging by the fact that Lucasfilm has registered a copyright complaint against Greenpeace for the company's take on the Volkswagen “Little Vader” ad, we'd say old George Lucas was none too happy to see light saber-wielding youngins protesting VW's stance on European emissions. Regardless, Episode II of the Greenpeace saga has made its way to the interwebs for us all to enjoy.

Microsoft being sued by Impulse over Kinect

Microsoft being sued by Impulse over Kinect

Impulse Technology, a distributor of wire and cable products, is suing Microsoft over key technologies used by its Kinect motion sensor. Good thing it happened after we had our time with the Kinect open-source driver hack. Impulse claims that Microsoft violated a whopping six patents 6,308,565, 6,430,997, 6,749,432, 6,765,726, 6,876,496, 7,359,121 and 7,791,808, which were granted between 2001 and 2010. No wonder it took so long to fire up the letters to the court.

In fact, the patents describe a system that is very similar to that of Kinect, though the patents do not provide much detail about the actual technology such as the sensors.

Scientists know what you want to do by scanning your brain

The bright minds over at the University of Western Ontario have their third eye set on a certain precognitive prize. Avoiding the messier open-skull, electrode-imbedding alternative, researchers at the Centre for Brain and Mind employed functional magnetic resonance imaging (fMRI) to successfully predict the action of participants' hands before they'd moved a muscle. After a year of brain-scanning trials, scientists learned to accurately foretell which signals were linked to one of three set actions: grabbing the top of an object, its bottom, or simply reaching out to touch it.

Samsung Galaxy S II gets dedicated Angry Birds level

Samsung Galaxy S II gets dedicated Angry Birds level

iPhone users tend to gloat that they get all the good games first, before it arrives on other platforms such as Android and Windows Phone 7. One of the prime examples would be Angry Birds, but on the other hand, Angry Birds is a free download on Android, so I guess that is some sort of compensation. Today, the tables have turned – Android owners, specifically those who rock to the Samsung Galaxy S II, will be able to enjoy a dedicated level in Angry Birds. This level will be a Golden Egg level, where it can be attained in the latest Angry Birds Seasons edition of Summer Pignic.

Moosh watches encourages kids to play outdoors

Most kids spend choose to spend time in front of their computers nowadays, connecting with their friends through their computers (i.e. in video games or social networks) instead of meeting up in person at a playground or a park - like in the good old days. Because of that, a designer has come up with an idea to get kids out of the house – with the Moosh watch. The Moosh watch is made up of a wristband with an interactive timepiece. Kids use their time pieces to identify themselves, and to communicate with their friends or new people they meet.

The Amazon Appstore is a disaster. So says Bithack CEO Emil Romanus, explaining why he has decided to pull his game Apparatus from the third party apps market. Don’t be mistaken, the game was doing just fine for itself — Appartus reached the number three spot in Amazon’s rankings — but the Swedish development house’s distaste with Amazon’s way of running things has them shifting their focus to the Android Market. Romanus details his complaints in a news post found on the Bithack site, taking issue with slow app review times and a lack of channels for easy communication between the developer and customers.

Glasses convert 3D movies into regular 2D

3D movies are all the hype these days, in fact just about every major release will come with a 3D option and to be honest, not every movie needs 3D. I could understand James Camerson's Avatar's need for 3D as it really brought out the beautiful scenery, but for certain other movies it would have been just as good/bad without 3D. There are some folks out there who avoid 3D movies, not only because they're more expensive but because it can sometimes induce headaches, and even nausea, but that is the price they have to pay if they want to go see the latest movie with a bunch of 3D-happy friends.

YouTube uploader catches Michael Bay reusing scenes from The Island for Transformers 3

YouTube uploader catches Michael Bay reusing scenes from The Island for Transformers 3

The attached video explains it all, so we'll keep this simple. It seems Michael Bay directly cribbed scenes from his 2005 movie, The Island, for 2011′s Transformers: Dark of the Moon, which is gobbling up people's disposable income this weekend, which sucks terribly to me. The 3D is totally not worth it. Anyway, extreme credit goes to the YouTube user who recognized Bay's clever use of CGI and called him out on it. This also proves that at least one human being actually saw The Island.
