You may remember a few weeks ago when Samsung unveiled their “Galaxy Chart” showing off the different categories of Galaxy devices and what to expect from each one. Well, one line of those devices was the Galaxy W and if you can see from the picture, it seems to line up perfectly with the Samsung T679 that passed through the FCC today on its way to T-Mobile. Fitting for its Galaxy W tier, the T679 will feature a 800×480 display, 1.4GHz processor, 4GB of internal memory and running Android 2.3 Gingerbread.

Netflix now available for all Froyo and Gingerbread phones

Great news, Netflix users. After all the bad press that the video on demand service has been getting recently, it looks like Netflix is finally doing something that consumers approve of. The latest version of the Netflix app for Android that just hit the Android Market has been updated to work on all Android devices that are running Froyo (2.2) or Gingerbread (2.3). I wonder what happened to the Qualcomm exclusivity.
Either way, you no longer have to resort to running that hacked APK that you can't update through the Android Market and have no official support for.

In a move that truly shows how entwined Fiat and Chrysler have become, the Italian automaker, along with its U.S. sidekick Chrysler, confirmed today the launch a Ram-badged version of the Fiat Doblo van in the U.S. The Chrysler Group has not released photos or specifications for the Ram-badged Doblo, but says the van will be imported from Turkey as it will be built by Fiat Group's Turkish joint-venture partner TOFAS. Chrysler adds that TOFAS will invest over $160 million for the necessary U.S. and Canadian homologation of the front-wheel-drive work van.

Great Scott! Marty McFly's Air Mag Sneakers Are Real

With three years yet to go, Nike has busted out Marty McFly's 2015 Air Mags. Photo credit George Kiel III/Nice Kicks. Just 22 years after we first saw a glimpse of the shoe of the future, Nike has at last made the Air Mag, the self-lacing, light-up sneaker worn by Marty McFly in Back to the Future II. It's not the first BTTF shoe Nike has made, but its certainly the one closest to the movie-prop original, and was designed to be an exact replica.

The Air Mag is also Nike's first rechargeable sneaker. The shoes have a electroluminescent “Nike” panel on the strap, and LEDs glow from the sole and heel.

HTC to hold NYC press event on September 20th; new devices in store?

HTC just sent us an invitation for a press event that will be held in New York City on September 20th. We're not sure what will be unveiled; the company already announced two new Windows Phone devices, the Titan and the Radar, but it is certainly possible we will hear more about U.S. versions of those phones. Perhaps HTC will unveil the Vigor, which is supposed to be one of the first devices to come equipped with Beats Audio and will be sold with a set of Beats headphones.

Samsung is the top smartphone vendor in Western Europe in Q2

The premier market intelligence firm IDC released its Q2 2011 mobile phone shipment estimates in Western Europe today, marking a fundamental shift in the market for mobile phones. For the first time, the smartphone shipments outnumbered the feature phone ones on the Old Continent. This change is mostly attributed to the significant rise of Android OS's adoption (352% year over year) according to IDC. The Google OS devices account for 48.5% of the total smartphone shipments.

As far as manufacturers go, Samsung has the top spot in smartphone shipments with 22% market share, followed closely by Apple, which has 21% of the smartphone market.

Allstate ranks cities with safest drivers... how does your town rank?

If you live in Fort Collins, Colorado, congratulations, your city is the safest driving city in the nation, according to Allstate. In its seventh-annual Allstate America's Best Drivers Report, the company determined that Fort Collins residents can expect to be in a collision once every 14 years. That's 28.6 percent better than the national average of once every 10 years. This is the second year running that Fort Collins has made the top spot, an honor city officials say is thanks to their residents' care on the roads. Allstate started the survey to increase awareness of road safety, the company said.

G Cloud LTE cloud gaming service to debut in October

Ubitus Inc. might not be a name that you are familiar with, but it might soon explode across the world as they are already a leader in cloud computing, with plans to roll out the first LTE cloud gaming service in the world, dubbing it the G Cloud. G Cloud will launch in October, but it seems as though Japan will be the first to enjoy such a service courtesy of NTT DoCoMo, so for the rest of the world, we will just have to sit tight and keep our fingers crossed that we too, will be able to experience cloud gaming sometime down the road just like how subscribers to Japan's largest wireless provider will do so from next month onwards.

It's no secret that the HTC EVO 3D is one of the best phones on the market.  The 3D cameras, dual-core processor and 4.3-inch qHD display put the EVO 3D head and shoulders above most other phones, but the 3D display is the icing on top.  If you own an EVO 3D, you're probably already watched The Green Hornet in 3D or played all the way through the 3D Spider Man game Sprint included with the phone, but it's pretty hard to find other good quality 3D content to enjoy while on the go. Fortunately, our friends at Sprint have taking matters into their own hands and recorded a 3D video called Bubble Mania.

Electrified bacteria army kills uranium, gives Captain Planet a run for his money

A certain type of "hairy" bacteria may just be the answer to cleaning up radioactive spills. Scientists at the University of Southern California found that under certain circumstances, Geobacter sulfurreducens could make metals like uranium less soluble - essentially turning the metal into hard droplets rather than being absorbed. Researchers discovered that by lowering the bacteria's temperature, it caused hair-like pili to extend, which enveloped the poison uranium and ultimately reduced it through long-range electron transfer.

Handy Rubber-Band-Inspired iPhone Case

Handy Rubber-Band-Inspired iPhone Case

Elasty is a surprisingly practical phone case. Belkin doesn't make this Belkin-branded iPhone case, but it should do. It's a concept design from Yoori Koo, and is the functional equivalent of wrapping a couple of rubber bands around your phone, only it doesn't obscure the display.
Koo's Elasty case is much like any other bumper-with-a-back style case, encasing the iPhone's squared-off body in a silicone shroud. The difference comes in a set of four thin strips formed by slits in the rubber. These pull away and let you tuck in cash, cables, cards and even pens.

Potential Fix Found For Motorola Photon 4G “Sleep of Death” Issue [Forum Talk]

Quite a few Motorola Photon owners have been experiencing an issue with their device in what they are calling “The Sleep of Death.” Apparently, the device will shut down at random times without warning forcing users to power back on and check for important missed calls and/or texts. MoPho users took to our very own Android Forums to address the issue though it seems nobody could figure out exactly what was going on and if this was a software issue or a hardware one. This ultimately lead many users back to their Sprint stores for hardware replacements. As it turns out, AF member 408SandShark seems to have found a possible fix.

Opera promises cross-platform apps for Smart TVs, gives us little to complain about

Opera has some guts going up against the likes of Samsung in the emerging realm of Smart TV apps. Then again, its new storefront brings something different to the table: namely a dashboard that strictly adheres to HTML5 and other web standards so that apps can work across any platform. Content providers like Vimeo and DriveCast have already signed up and TV manufacturers shouldn't be far behind - not least because the underlying browser engine is claimed to run smoothly even on crappier cheaper processors.
