No matter what country you're in, you'll find at least one body-painted sports nut willing to act a fool in the name of fandom. To figure out what makes these hooligans tick, Sharp's setting up trucks outside EuroCup 2012 matches to measure fans' brainwaves using biometric technology. Once inside these mobile FanLabs, volunteers will watch the game while wearing the company's NeuroSky headsets - a super sensitive EEG that uses dry electrodes to measure cerebral activity.

Moshi Zefyr 2 High-Efficiency MacBook Cooler Review

People are always concerned with keeping their laptop computers running cool.  Laptops can run hot because they usually have small fans to save space inside, and they are often used on soft surfaces that can block the cooling vents.  There are a variety of products designed to cool laptop computers.  Some, like lap desks, are designed to keep you and your computer cool while you use them sitting on your legs.  Others, like the Zefyr 2 from Moshi, are better used on your desk, or even on that lap desk.  I was sent a Zefyr 2 High-Efficiency MacBook Cooler to test with my 13″ MacBook.

Android Apps Running Smooth on BBX 2.0 Beta for the Blackberry Playbook [Video]

Android Apps Running Smooth on BBX 2.0 Beta for the Blackberry Playbook [Video]

The guys over at Macberry were able to get their hands on the new BBX 2.0 developer beta for the BlackBerry Playbook. Besides the more of the same QNX UI we’re used to seeing on the tablet, we get another glimpse at Android apps running smooth as butter on the device. In the video you can see a folder marked “Android Apps” and inside we find Gmail, IMDb, Amazon Kindle, Google Places and a few others. The apps seem to work great with only one force close rearing its head (something we’re used to with Android) and everything opened up nice and quick.

Apple patent suggests a thinner MacBook Pro

Apple patent suggests a thinner MacBook Pro

In case  you didn't know, one of the reasons that the MacBook Air is so thin is due to the fact that it lacks an optical drive, which is also one of the features (or lack of) that separate it from the MacBook Pro lines. Well, it looks like Apple has found a way to make the MacBook Pro without sacrificing its functionality. According to a recently discovered patent, Apple has managed to slim down the optical drive by reinventing it. Regular optical disc drives require the up and down movement of a motorized hub that puts the disc into place - it is the mechanism that causes the whirring and churning sounds whenever you insert a disc.

Ford Focus and Fiesta to be well represented at SEMA

Ford is hitting SEMA with a volley of modified Focus and Fiesta models this year. The company says that the aftermarket show is the perfect venue for showing off just how customizable both vehicles can be, and with creations from the likes of Roush, Cobb Tuning and Gold Coast Automotive among others, there should be a hatch or sedan on hand in Las Vegas for everyone. Roush is doing what the company does best: plopping an R900 TVS Supercharger on top of the four-cylinder engine in the Focus for a substantial bump in power, and a full Roush exhaust ensures that the engine will breathe easy.

iOS developers said to earn more from app sales than Google makes from its mobile business

. Developers who build and sell apps for Apple's iOS platform will collectively earn more money over the next year than Google will earn from its entire mobile business. Following Google's third-quarter earnings report last week, David Barnard, founder of App Cubby, posted an interesting observation on his company's blog. Google reported a run rate of $2.5 billion for its mobile ad revenue based on third-quarter earnings, up from $1 billion a year earlier. While that growth is impressive, Barnard noted that Apple paid developers about $500 million during the 89 days between July 7th and October 4th for a run rate of $2 billion.

HTC comments on its plans for Ice Cream Sandwich

Phone manufacturer and long-time supporter of Android, HTC, has spoken out about Google's latest iteration of the Android OS, Ice Cream Sandwich. While it's expected that the Nexus One will get ICS, HTC has its own Sense UI overlay on its other Android devices. So what's going to happen with Sense and Android 4.0. HTC recently had problems upgrading Desire users to Gingerbread, aka Android 2.3, because of Sense UI. The company originally said that it couldn't give Desire owners Gingerbread because, with the Sense UI already on there, there wasn't enough room for the newest version of Android.

Cybertecture Mirror brings Augmented Reality to your living room

Now here is something that I believe most folks would want to have in their living rooms or at least bedrooms – the Cybertecture Mirror that would certainly seem far more capable than any fairy tale magic mirror. It has been described as a “reflective window into a digital life”, where this mirror will be connected to the Internet (surprise, surprise), augmenting your reflected image with meta data such as news bytes, weather updates, messages in your inbox and social network updates.

You've already gotten peek at it. heck, if you're anything like us you've already been using the preview version of it. What are we talking about. Why the newly redesigned Gmail, of course. In late June Google started offering a vision of your web app future. It was a bit sparser, a bit more monochromatic and (dare we say) a bit more finger friendly. Well, it seems like the interface is about to become a lot less optional. A video was accidentally posted to YouTube today by Google (since pulled), offering a tour of the revamped email service.

Ford and GM think new vehicle sales will increase in 2012

Auto sales have grown steadily since the U.S. and its auto industry performed a synchronized swan dive. But, unfortunately for automakers, those numbers have risen at a painfully slow pace. The 'slow and steady' trend is likely to continue for the foreseeable future, but The Detroit News reports that both Ford and General Motors see continued sales increases in 2012. Ford economist Jenny Lin thinks that sales should progress beyond the 12.5 million to 13.5 million units forecasted for 2011. Lin added that a lack of new car sales over the last few years has led to a quickly aging fleet of vehicles on U.S. roads.

There have been previous rumors about Verizon being the exclusive carrier for the phone, but now we know that there is an HSPA+ as well as an LTE version of the device the exclusivity might only be for a certain period.

We got it straight from the horse's mouth here at Samsung and Google's Galaxy Nexus launch event that the future LTE edition of the Galaxy Nexus will indeed be thicker than the HSPA+ model showcased today (and above). Roboto font and the new design philosophy of Android 4.0, Ice Cream Sandwich

When it came time to talk Ice Cream Sandwich, Matias Duarte started the conversation (or is it lecture?) with a bit about Roboto. At its most basic, Roboto is a font - the new face of Android in a post Honeycomb world where tablets and phones share the same software space. Sure, it may seem like just another rounded, clean sans serif typeface, but it's really an entire aesthetic that Duarte says has guided the design philosophy of Android 4.0. It's "modern, yet approachable" and "emotional," in PR speak at least.

About a week ago we reported that Apple is rumored to be building an iPad mini, which supposedly is meant to go up against Amazon's Kindle Fire tablet that is priced rather competitively at a mere $199. However this seems to go against Steve Job's statement a year ago when asked about rumors of a 7" tablet, where he was quoted as saying "The reason we [won't] make a 7-inch tablet isn't because we don't want to hit that price point, it's because we think the screen is too small to express the software." As it turns out, while 7" is too small, perhaps 7.85" is just nice as recent rumors seem to suggest.
