Circuit of Wales gets key go-ahead vote by local government

A development company called Heads of the Valleys, led by Michael Carrick, is working through the steps to build a 250-million-pound ($378M US) motorsports facility in Blaenau Gwent, Wales, about 33 miles due north of Cardiff. After more than a year of work so far, the latest success is that the Blaenau Gwent County Borough Council has given approval to the outline plan of the circuit. Called the Circuit of Wales, the 830-acre site will be a "low carbon automotive center of excellence" that will comprise a 3.5-mile car track, motocross, karting and off-roading tracks, hotel and commercial and retail complexes.

Alleged image of dual SIM HTC Butterfly S leaks

HTC recently launched the successor of its HTC Butterfly dubbed HTC Butterfly S. The Butterfly S was a relatively modest upgrade over its predecessor, but that was still enough to make it one of the most powerful smartphones available in the market. And according to the latest rumor by leakschina the smartphone might be getting a dual SIM version int the near future. The dual SIM HTC Butterfly S is said to sport a 5-inch display with a resolution of 1920 x 1080 pixels. The upcoming variant is rumored to feature a Snapdragon 600 chipset with a 1.9GHz quad-core Krait 300 processor along with 2 GB of RAM, just like the regular version.

Honda takes us through 50 years of automobiles in 60 seconds

Honda takes us through 50 years of automobiles in 60 seconds

Honda's wonderfully simple, fun ads are not in short supply right now. We showed you Hands, the followup to 2003's The Cog, last week. If you haven't had a chance to look at those two great videos, we strongly encourage you to head over that way and give them a watch. The latest minute-long commercial is a bit more dear, though. And while it may be in Japanese, it's still a cool look back at Honda and its car-building history.

This is also a great video if you're a fan of odd, vintage Japanese vehicles. Honda's T360 and a few old Civics are featured heavily, although we can't help but notice that a few very big names are missing.

2014 Mazda3

2014 Mazda3

The Cure For The Common Corolla. I hate the Toyota Corolla. I'm not talking about the new 2014 model; I can't yet judge a car I haven't driven. I'm referring to the current, old-as-dirt sedan. As an appliance, I get why people buy it, but it represents everything that I, as a car enthusiast, dislike. I don't like looking at it, I don't like sitting in it, and I really don't like driving it. There is absolutely no amount of emotion dialed into any part of the Corolla experience and every other vehicle in the segment is a far better choice.

Thanks to the folks at Top Gear Russia, we got an early glimpse of the 2014 Mazda3 sedan. Now, Mazda has released more images of its sleek new four-door, and if you like what the Japanese automaker has done with the five-door hatchback, you won't find anything to complain about with the sedan. Many would argue that the Mazda3 sedan looks like a scaled-down version of the new Mazda6, and in many cases, that's true. But there are subtle details about the Mazda3 that we really like, starting with the larger grille that makes for a slightly more aggressive front end.

Melrose Is Minnesota's First 'Gigabit City'

Melrose Is Minnesota's First 'Gigabit City'

In life, there is always the issue of disparity, and where gulfs exist between the 'haves' and 'have nots'. I suppose to a certain extent, you could also throw in the issue of Internet connectivity as well. For example, most of Minnesotans are unable to enjoy home Internet connections that are 1Gbps in speed – which happens to (theoretically speaking, although it is never the case in real life) be around 100 times faster compared to a standard broadband hookup. On paper, this is not feasible due to the cost and complications that arise.

The Best Gadget Gifts for Kids

The Best Gadget Gifts for Kids

I saw a headline recently that opined that if kids were going to be using gadgets, then they should be educational.  Perhaps my ideas are different from most, but I think using gadgets – under supervision and for reasonable periods of time – is educational.  Even playing with an empty oatmeal box is educational in a sense, because it involves the child's imagination, and many gadgets can do that, too.  I also think that using computers and tablets is important these days, because they are becoming such an integral part of life and business.

NSA Can Reportedly Tap In To Skype Audio And Video Calls

Edward Snowden, the man who blew the whistle on NSA's top secret PRISM program, has once again leaked documents to The Guardian. The publication says in a new report that the documents reveal that NSA is able to tap in to audio and video calls made through Skype, it is alleged that Microsoft has closely worked with the agency to provide it this level of access. The company has allegedly been helping NSA to circumvent its encryption which could have posed problems for the agency if it wanted to intercept web chats on Outlook.com. NSA is also said to have “pre-encryption stage” access to email on Hotmail as well as Outlook.com.

Tizen Tablet Prototype Video

Tizen Tablet Prototype Video

Tizen is not dead yet, and in fact, the recently talked about Tizen App Challenge has put up a $4 million bounty for developers who have been given the responsibility to "redefine the mobile experience". Well, one would say that in a highly competitive arena like the mobile operating system one, to make an appearance without putting any effort at all to do something different like "redefining" the mobile experience would be pretty much suicidal and doomed to fail right from the get go.

Japan is big on robots, so much so that if you have slightly more than a hundred grand to spare, you are even capable of purchasing your very own exoskeleton in order to ward off those bullies at school from being a nuisance to you, ever again. Well, the folks over at Honda have a dream – a dream which will involve the manufacturing of a new disaster response robot that will be based on their humanoid ASIMO robot. This particular robot is set to be a larger, and of course more beefed up version of the ASIMO, where it is capable of walking, crawling, and performing tasks within a disaster environment.

Autocrosser mixes cones and rings with in-car marriage proposal

Autocrossing a car takes cool nerves and a lot of focus, which makes this particular stunt even more impressive. You see, as Jake Wile pilots his BMW into the course of cones during a recent BMW Car Club of America event in Boston, he knows that he is just a few turns and slaloms away from one of the most nerve-racking moments of a man's life: proposing to his girlfriend. With Maggie, his girlfriend/co-driver, riding shotgun, Jake does a great job carving up the course before doing a little showboating with a handbrake power slide followed by a donut.

This time, we have a full HD 1080p video from someone calling themselves “4Leakz” (an @evleaks rival, perhaps?) showing off the device in a quick hands-on. You'll notice that although the back of the device appears to be a matte black, that's only some kind of sticker as this is only a test unit. In the video we only get a short look at the new lockscreen animation, launcher, and settings.

This would indicate AT&T is going to announce some plan-related or network-related news, but we can't be too sure about what, exactly, is in store. The timing is very interesting, with T-Mobile revealed to be taking shots at AT&T in its latest build-up to tomorrow's event.

Kantar: iOS usage grows 3.5% in the US, gets closer to Android

A market research conducted by analyst company Kantar Worldpanel shows that iOS has grabbed 41.9% of the smartphone market in the US for the three-month period ending in May. That's an increase of 3.5 percent points over the same period of last year. This gets Apple's mobile OS closer to Android, which managed to add the negligible 0.1% to its user base. Google's mobile OS now runs on 52% of the smartphones sold for the period.

As far as mobile carriers and their smartphone sales are concerned, Verizon is in the lead with 34.6%, AT&T is second with 29%, and Sprint gets the third spot with 12.7%.

Gentleman General Purpose. There's an ATV slowly idling through the underbrush to my passenger side. Its rider's eyes are glued to the metallic purple bread van consuming every last square inch of the trail: a cube of glittering lunacy resting blissfully in the dappled light of a Tennessee morning.
"I ain't never seen a Mercedes up here before."

In many ways, this machine is a massive middle finger to automotive evolution. There have only been three iterations of the G-Class since Daimler first began building examples for the Shah of Iran in 1979, and the latest of those bowed in 1990.

Add a Bluetooth numeric keypad to your computer's keyboard

I haven't had a keyboard with a numeric keypad in many years, but my hand still automatically starts to move to the right whenever I need to enter numbers.  I considered buying Apple's wired keyboard with a number pad, but it's too big to fit on my desk and allow room for my mouse.  Satechi has a Bluetooth accessory that's just what I need.  The Bluetooth Wireless Smart Keypad is compatible with both PC and Macs, but its styling mimics that of Apple's Bluetooth Keyboard.

Indian motorcycle maker Hero takes 49.2% stake in Erik Buell Racing

India's Hero Motorcorp has taken a 49.2-percent stake in Erik Buell Racing at cost of $25 million; $15 million of that is in immediate investment, the remaining $10 million to come over the next nine months. The two companies formalized a partnership in February last year, when Hero sponsored EBR's two bikes in the AMA Pro Racing series and Buell sent engineers to India to help Hero develop new products. Things have apparently worked out, the equity stake representing Hero's faith in its partner. Until 2010, Hero was the Indian JV partner of Honda; it was known as Hero Honda and was the leader in the Indian market.

Samsung Iceland's Galaxy S4 Commercial Is Very Bizarre

Samsung Iceland's Galaxy S4 Commercial Is Very Bizarre

Apple and Samsung might have been friends at one point in time, especially given how much business Apple has given Samsung over the years, but due to allegations of patent infringement from both companies, that relationship has since turned sour leading Samsung to poke fun at Apple in a variety of different ways. However a recent ad for the Samsung Galaxy S4 which was released in Iceland left us feeling a little weirded out, and confused. The ad itself seems to be rather bizarre in nature and with apples pictured so prominently throughout the ad, it was not a very subtle jab at Apple.

In fact, over the weekend, there was a leaked slide that depicted additional improvements being made to Nokia's impending Amber update so that Bluetooth 4.0 connectivity is supported with some of the devices that will receive that update.
