Former EA CEO Thinks Angry Birds Could Use More Innovation

Former EA CEO Thinks Angry Birds Could Use More Innovation

Angry Birds has probably got to be one of the biggest names in mobile gaming at the moment. The developers, Rovio, have since released many variations of the game to tie-in with movies as well as other franchises, such as Star Wars, but overall each variation is essentially the same game with a different look and sometimes slightly different mechanics as well. To that end, former EA CEO, John Riccitiello, revealed during his speech at the Gaming Insiders Summit how he felt about game brands, and cited Angry Birds as an example.

IsoHunt Owner Fined $110 Million, To Shut Down By End Of This Week

In what can be considered to be a landmark settlement, the owner of the site IsoHunt has been ordered to fork out $110 million as compensation, and will have to shut down the site before the new week begins. This ruling certainly sends out a strong signal to future infringers of the risks that they are taking. Court records which were filed today saw that Gary Fung, the owner of IsoHunt, has been given until the end of the week to shut down his BitTorrent search engine, apart from other related sites such as TorrenTBox and Podtropolis.

Nexus 5 Makes An Appearance On Google Play

So it was only just now that a rendering of the upcoming Nexus 5 was leaked and to help make things a little more official, it seems that the US Google Play store has listed the Nexus 5 along with a short description of the handset. Unfortunately the actual listing for the device is not accessible at the moment, meaning that the full specs of the handset is still unknown. The device appears to come with a price tag of $349 which is different from the $399 price that we heard of a few days ago. That is the price of the 16GB model, so presumably the 32GB model could retail for around the $400 mark.

At Le Mans this past summer, Nissan unveiled the first prototype for the ZEOD RC, a new hybrid racecar which it intends to field at the famous French endurance race next year. Four months have passed since then, totaling eight month of development, and now Nissan has revealed the final form at the headquarters of its Nismo racing division. The updated Nissan ZEOD RC benefits from a more streamlined shape with optimized cooling and improved aerodynamics. Although billed as an electric vehicle and not a hybrid, the ZEOD RC pairs a 1.6-liter turbo four with a pair of electric motors.

Samsung Didn't Expect 'This Level Of Uncertainty' With Note 3 Region Lock

A few weeks back it was discovered that Samsung's latest flagship phablet, the Galaxy Note 3, could be region locked. This meant trouble for those who travel frequently or those who rely on the grey market for their latest smartphone/phablet fix. Samsung later clarified that region locking only applied to first time activations of the device only. Still, the region locking debacle created a lot of confusion for customers.

Some Galaxy Note 3 Users Encountering Boot Loops

If you're planning on picking up the Samsung Galaxy Note 3 for yourself, it seems that there have been a recent bout of complaints about the device, of which a proper resolution to the problem has yet to be discovered. According to some of the reports, some Galaxy Note 3 units are experiencing boot loops and based on the discussions about the issue, there should be no reason why the device is even experiencing such a problem. The issue occurs after the device randomly restarts on its own, after which it will see itself stuck in a boot loop that can only be stopped when the battery is manually pulled from the device.

Microsoft Surface Blade Concepts Spotted In New Video

Microsoft Surface Blade Concepts Spotted In New Video

Don't you just love concepts. We absolutely do. After all, when it comes to concepts, one does not have to think too much when it comes to hardware and software limitations at the moment, since you can go totally wild with your imagination, and let the engineers sort out whatever issues that would arise after that. It is fr this particular reason that we are interested in this short video that Microsoft released, where it depicted how a group of students over at the Art Center College of Design in Pasadena, California, were recruited simply to tap into their brains as they came up with concepts for “blades”.

Kids these days are not happy with using just their imagination in order to spend some time playing in the great outdoors. No sir, their minds will need to be fed as well as cajoled into thinking. Gone are the days where you give them just an empty cardboard box, and they will be able to turn it into a fortress, protecting the inhabitants within from a fiery dragon, or transforming it into a space shuttle so that they can explore the wonders of space.

Soccer (excuse us: football) might not be a popular sport on this side of the Atlantic, but at least one Engadget editor is fan enough for all of us. In addition to playing the sport and following the pro leagues, our own Edgar Alvarez has made a point of buying every new edition of FIFA for Xbox 360. Naturally, he's already had a chance to get comfy with the 2014 version - and critique it too. Read on for a lightning review from someone who knows a little something about the franchise.

2014 Dodge Durango Ron Burgundy ads already have 2.7M views [w/videos]

The guy who once made the Dodge Stratus a punchline of sorts is now a spokesman for the 2014 Dodge Durango, and the move appears to be paying off handsomely for Dodge. Will Ferrell, acting as 1970s-era TV news personality Ron Burgundy, has teamed up with the automaker for co-branded advertisements between the refreshed 2014 Durango and Ferrell's new movie, Anchorman 2: The Legend Continues. Like Ferrell's fictional character, the ads are outrageous, flamboyant and a bit random. They're also successful: Automotive News says that more than 2.7 million people have already watched the videos since they debuted on October 5.

'Sputnik' State Controlled Search Engine Reportedly Being Developed In Russia

'Sputnik' State Controlled Search Engine Reportedly Being Developed In Russia

Rumor has it that Russia is developing a new search engine called Sputnik which intends to dominate the Russian market. Since the search engine is said to be state controlled, the government will essentially be able to control the kind of information it wants people to have access to. Apparently state owned telecommunications group Rostelecom is developing Sputnik, which has been named after the Sputnik satellite. The report comes from Russia's Vedomosti newspaper. Even if Sputnik doesn't see mass adoption within the people, there's a possibility that it might become the default search engine that government officials in Russia use.
