. Worldwide PC shipments are set to decline in 2012 for the first time in 11 years, according to a report from IHS iSuppli. Shipments are expected to fall from 352.8 million units in 2011 to 348.7 million in 2012, representing a drop of 1.2%. Â The research firm notes that the release of Windows 8 could help boost the PC market in the fourth quarter. Sales may remain at bay, however, as consumers continue to spend money on tablets and smartphones.Â
"There was great hope through the first half that 2012 would prove to be a rebound year for the PC market," said Craig Stice, senior principal analyst for computer systems at IHS.
