DigiTimes is reporting that Sony is aiming to ship 50 million smartphones next year and that 30 to 40 percent of the number will most likely be outsourced to original device manufacturers in Taiwan. Industry sources told the publication that among the ODMs included are Foxconn, Arima Communications, and Compal Communications. Additionally, Sony is also expecting to ship 35 million smartphones this year – reportedly a 50 percent increase from last year. However, the sources added that Sony will still find it hard to “swing back to profitability.”.
