Motorola shuts down operations in Asia Pacific

Motorola shuts down operations in Asia Pacific

BGR India is reporting that Motorola Mobility will be shutting down operations in the Asia Pacific region, except in Australia and Korea. This decision was made after Motorola laid off 20 percent of its work force and decided to shrink its operations in Asian countries. It is being said that Motorola will continue to sell products until stock lasts and continue to operate their service stations.

We're the first to hit a million Flipboard subscribers, and now you can win a Nexus 7!

There are a lot of great ways to get your Engadget news, including our fine selection of apps and our tablet magazine Distro - plus the good 'ol World Wide Web, of course - but we've been shocked to see just how many of you have been consuming our wares daily on Flipboard. Shocked and, well, flattered. The service finally hit Android in June and, in the month after that, our overall Flipboard subscribers jumped and surpassed one million. That's a huge number on its own, but that's not all.

Open webOS beta will become available to developers today

Open webOS beta will become available to developers today

Just like that, HP is making good on its promise to release Open webOS in beta. The code is available today under the Apache 2.0 license, and is landing slightly ahead of schedule (HP long ago said the software would arrive in September). All told, the beta release is comprised of 54 components, totaling more than 450,000 lines of code. As you'd expect, too, the desktop build incorporates all the elements released so far on Ubuntu. The software also includes an ARM emulator, running db8, node.js and other services. Other highlights: the System Manager now supports applications, including key ones like Calendar and Contacts.

Verizon Samsung Galaxy Stellar shows up at Best Buy, confirms it's the device formerly known as Jasper

The Samsung Galaxy Stellar now has its own page over at Best Buy. Verizon's upcoming smartphone has been confirmed to have the model number SCH-i200. As such, it's actually the phone formerly known as Jasper. That was obviously just a codename, and Galaxy Stellar is its final moniker.
Best Buy doesn't have it in stock just yet, but the listing helps us by confirming the device's specs.
