Bicyclists walk away after terrifying Mulholland motorcycle crash

Bicyclists walk away after terrifying Mulholland motorcycle crash

Now for a lesson in target fixation. As we're sure most of you know, your vehicle tends to go where your eyes go, and that's doubly true for motorcycles. Lock eyes with something you don't want to hit and invariably, that's precisely what you'll do. One rider in California recently found that out the hard way when he was confronted with a pair of bicyclists pedaling up Mulholland Highway. The rider exited a corner with plenty of angle left in his bike at a completely reasonable and legal speed, but panic took over when he spotted the cyclists.

France Allegedly Opposed To YouTube Buying Dailymotion Controlling Share

Last month it was reported that Yahoo was in talks to buy a controlling share in Dailymotion, making it the first expensive acquisition under current CEO Marissa Mayer. This popular video website is said to be worth around $300 million and Yahoo was rumored to be interested in purchasing a 75% share, with an option to completely acquire it in the future. It currently has a minority share in the website. Both Yahoo and Dailymotion had refrained from commenting on this deal, though according to a new report, the deal's off because the French government is opposed to it.

Report says Windows Phone beating Android in US lately, but does it mean anything?

When reports about mobile growth surface it's easy to construe facts or twist them to make certain companies look good. That's why we felt it was important to take Kantar WorldPanel's latest results regarding mobile OS growth in the United States with a grain of salt. According to them, Windows Phone has been outgunning Android in the United States market as of late, with Microsoft's mobile OS growing 1.5% from February to March while Android dropped 1.9%. For starters, it's worthy to note that Android still holds a very commanding lead over the rest, as it accounted for 49.3% of sales in March.

Verizon Cloud gives you 500MB of free storage for files and backups

With the likes of Dropbox, Skydrive, Box.net, Google Drive and more swirling about it's hard to imagine anyone picking a carrier-sanctioned cloud storage service. Verizon has done just that, though, as the carrier has announced Verizon Cloud. It is as it sounds — it's a cloud storage account where you can store all your files and multimedia, backup your contacts and texts, and never lose your digital goods for as long as Verizon's servers survive. The service is only available for Android and via the web for now, but will eventually come to iOS and desktop platforms, as well as other mobile platforms, over the course of the year.

This is how you set your V8 Miata on fire in your garage

We were never all that great at math, but we can tell you that Miata + V8 = awesome. That even applies to heavy cast-iron small block Chevrolet V8s with carburetors instead of fuel injection. But as one aspiring wrench recently found out, even the most sound of formulas can lead to disaster when you start throwing in unknown variables. Variables like a leaky fuel system.

Rumor: new Samsung tablets include 11-inch Octa-Core Nexus, 8-inch Galaxy Tab

With the Samsung Galaxy S4 now available and the third edition of the Samsung Galaxy Tab announced, the South Korean OEM seems to be on a roll. With those devices out of the way rumors regarding a few more have popped up. According to SamMobile, Samsung is working on two new 11-inch tablets. This would mark the first time a Samsung tablet has exceed the typical 10.1-inch mark that has become so popular in the big slate game.
Dubbed the Galaxy Tab 11, it'll supposedly sport a dual-core A15-based Exynos 5250 chipset, an 8 megapixel rear camera with a 2 megapixel front camera, and a microSD card slot.

Remember we reported on a $15 million diamond encrusted iPhone 5 the other day. Well if you don't have $15 million to spare but you wouldn't mind dropping $25,000 instead, there's a diamond encrusted iPhone 5 that has been spotted on sale in Hong Kong, China. Considering that Hong Kong is one of the financial hubs of Asia, attempting to sell this $25,000 might actually be possible. The whole phone isn't covered in diamonds, but rather the sides of it which has been encrusted in a combined 7.28 carats worth of diamonds, which also spells out the number "5" on the back.

Samsung Galaxy S4 Teardown Confirms It Is Easier To Repair

The folks over at iFixit regularly post detailed teardowns of the most latest gadgets. Naturally, the Samsung Galaxy S4 was to go under their knife as well, and so it has. Their teardown reveals that the device is actually much more easier to repair than its counterparts such as iPhone 5 and HTC One. It is this way because the Galaxy S4 has a battery that can be removed and standard screws, that once unscrewed, give access to the internals. The S4 may lack design aesthetics of its competitors, but it is easier to repair, this could be an added plus for prospective customers who like to pop open their smartphones once in a while.

GM alters Akerson's pay mix because he may retire

General Motors has tweaked CEO Dan Akerson's pay mix to compensate for the possibility that the 64-year-old executive may retire before his long-term restricted stock vests in three years. Last year, Akerson saw his pay jump by 44 percent to $11.1 million, including $1.99 million in restricted stock as salary units, which vest immediately. Previously, Akerson was awarded around $2 million in restricted stock that could be forfeited on retirement. The change has led some analysts to believe Akerson may retire earlier than he had planned.

Charge your devices without an outlet with a Folding USB Solar Cell

I love to be away from the world at times. Whether I am at the beach, up in the mountains, or just hanging outside, I always have my phone with me. The thought of being ‘green' and being able to keep my devices charged when I am out on the go made me take interest in the 5W and 7W Folding USB Solar Cell by Brown Dog Gadgets. These solar cells fold up on each other for protection and portability when not in use. To use them, you simply unfold them and face the cells towards the sunlight, with options to suction them to a window or tie them to a backpack, and plug in your USB charging cable to one of the two USB ports.

Beverly Hills road rage incident ends with BMW driver ramming bicyclist

An instance of road rage turned mortally dangerous in Beverly Hills, CA, recently, when an incident between a cyclist and a BMW driver took a scary turn in front of a rolling security camera. LA Weekly reports that the person on the bicycle and the driver of the 2008 BMW 328i in the video had some kind of altercation, resulting in the cyclist punching the driver. The driver then followed the biker to an alley on the 9000 block of Wilshire Blvd and, according to the Beverly Hills Police Department, "Intentionally rammed the bicyclist with his vehicle pinning him to a metal rolling trash bin.".

IIHS survey says D.C. residents like speed and red-light cameras

The Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) released a study this week that seems to go against what critics and the media have been reporting for years. According to the report, some people – more specifically, a large majority of the residents in Washington D.C. – actually like red light and speed cameras. The study, conducted in November 2012, interviewed 801 people who live in the District. Of those surveyed over the phone, 71 percent had driven and walked in the city during the past month, 23 percent had walked and not driven and 4 percent had driven and not walked.

The Motorola Photon Q was a device I was always eyeballing on Sprint. I guess somewhere, deep down I've never really gotten over a full 5-row QWERTY. In any case, Photon Q users have something to get excited about. It's been almost a full year since Jelly Bean and after watching almost every other high-end device receive the J-Bean, it's now the Q's turn.
Starting today, Motorola Photon Q users on Sprint can look forward to and update to software version 9.8.2Q-122_XT897_FFW-5, bring their device's firmware up to Android 4.1. Yes, it's not 4.2, but at least it's something.

Nokia's CEO Stephen Elop hinted a new Nokia Lumia should be expected to be announced ‘later this quarter‘ a few weeks ago, with a rumor of the device possibly being unveiled today. That rumor turned out to be false as we have yet to hear of any announcement for Nokia's future Lumia, but we did receive an invite for an event happening on May 14 in London. The invite has the words “The Nokia Lumia Story Continues” displayed along with the date, location and Nokia's logo.

Alexander Graham Bell is one inventor whose impact is still felt to this day as the invention of the telephone made it possible to communicate with people around the world instantly by using our voices. Nowadays, cell phones are used as more than just a mobile telephone as we can communicate with others in a number of ways, but without the telephone, who knows how the cellular phone and smartphones would have shaped up to be. So when we heard you can now listen to what Bell may have sounded like when he made his historic first call, we let our ears enjoy the sweet sounds of the 19th century immediately.

Honda boss says Chinese drivers don't want green cars

According to The Wall Street Journal, Honda CEO Takanobu Ito believes that China's nascent car-buying demographic isn't all that interested in hybrid cars – at least not yet. The emissions story doesn't resonate with them, and certainly not for the higher purchase premium such models usually carry. What they really want, Ito believes, is reliable, affordable cars that fit their needs. When it comes to Honda sales, the numbers would appear to jibe with his thoughts: Honda sold 598,577 vehicles in China last year through its two joint ventures, yet just 542 of them were hybrids – not even a tenth of a percent.

Spatio for Android aims to become the next big Holo Facebook app

While the official Facebook for Android app has gotten a lot better in recent months thanks to the company ditching the HTML 5-based user interface in lieu of an all-native client, we would still prefer it if Facebook got with the times and introduced a version with Holo design. Some folks aren't willing to hold their breath that long, though, and are likely seeking third-party alternatives. There aren't many good ones for Android, with the most notable being OneLouder's Friendcaster. That particular app is quite nice indeed, but we love having an even more vast sea of apps to choose from.
